Eureka!

I patched up the NativeCore.h file with some BSD compatible defines (most shamelessly lifted from the Apple defines, since OSX =~ BSD) and I'm back in business!

All my recordings seem to play back just fine, now.

Thanks to everyone (especially Narflex) for helping me out.

Can you detail your "patch" a little more? I think i have a similar issue.

I actually have some recordings that will lose audio in the middle of the recording and get it back at the end. Almost as if the source (Comcast) is changing audio mid show.

I don't think my patch will help you. This was a problem with NativeCore.h trying to use lseek64, which does not exist on FreeBSD as the lseek call is already 64-bit.

This is likely something completely different. The problem I was having was detection of the audio PID when the file was imported. Losing audio mid-stream is something totally different. Not sure of the best way to analyze that stream to see what's happening.

I have the same issue with Comcrap. I occasionally loose the audio when they insert a commercial that is in stereo instead of 5.1. The commercial plays with audio but when the program returns the audio is lost and doesn't reappear until another transition occurs - sometimes doesn't return at all. Never happens with my OTA tuners - just my Comcast boxes w HD-PVR.

Glad to hear you fixed the problem...once you mentioned you disabled the internal format detector, then it all made sense why the problem existed.

As for the other issues relating to losing audio for part of a recording...the fact that it starts on commercial breaks means I know what the problem is. Comcast is likely switching the PID of the audio stream at that point in time...I used to have this problem on FIOS as well. All the plumbing in SageTV is there to deal with this (at least for playback on the extenders..although it would likely fix other cases as well)...but the capture device needs to send SageTV a message to 'reset' the device when this occurs. If you search the code for "VARIED_FORMAT" you'll see how it handles it if you're curious.

I'll ask Qian if he knows where we'd need to put this in the open source code to resolve it.

Oh wait...Helen, you mentioned it happens with the HD-PVR. That would be totally different than what I'm talking about.

jtheripper, what kind of source are you using?

Yes, and it's very rare. And only on a few channels, usually on national feeds when Comcast cuts to a local commercial insert.
