Showtime just released a Showtime Anytime app for Android TV. So, it's good that support for Android TV is still increasing.

Unfortunately, the Showtime app shares the same limitation with many other streaming apps on the platform: no support for surround sound. The only streaming apps that support surround sound are Google Play (LPCM) and Netflix (Dolby Digital Plus pass-through).

Hulu, HBO, and Showtime do not support surround sound at all. Even Google's own Live Channels app doesn't work.
