To get back on topic...NetworkGuy, I think you'd be fine with the run from the antenna to your basement. The losses wold be relatively small. consider when you had cable how long the run was from the pole to your house.

I have an old radio shack antenna attached to my chimney. It would be approximately at the roof line of a second story. I'm about 15 miles to the primary antenna in San Diego. When standing on my roof, I can see the mountain where the antenna farm is located. My reception is fine. I have one splitter (1in x 6 out) because I also run an antenna connection to my amplifier (radio), TV (as a backup...just in case Sage or the computer fails and we want to watch something), and test computer.

You can take their antenna recommendations with a grain of salt, but at the very least you can figure out where to point your antenna and how far away the transmitters are located. I did use them to get a good idea of what type of antenna to use then found a less expensive one that has similar specs.

It allows you to put in your exact address and approximate height of your antenna and it will not only tell you expected signal strength of each channel, but exact direction of all nearby and how many hills ("edges") are between you and the towers, or even whether you could only expect to get it via tropospheric propagation.
