The installer just skips past installing anything... Anyone know how to fix this?

Thank You

that means you have the most current version installed

we are going to have to wait until 9.1
until then just go easy with the ff and rewind button

I don't think that's what it means. I opened the cab files with winrar and the first thing I noticed is that the quartz.dll file is an updated version with a different size. I had this installation problem before with one of the directx updates.

I just finished reinstalling windows XP, updated to sp2 directx 9.0c, then I tried to install this dec update and it was the same result. It just skips past copying files and says I'm all done... Microsucks is so very annoying.

maybe so but M$ sees you have directx9 c installed and thinks you do not need the update

it is not an updated version
it is the version from directx9 b
I just checked it
it would be nice though if we could install this because if they are using the older quartz.dll from directx9 b then they may have updated or used other older files

sounds like M$ sure screwed up on the new version of the quartz.dll

Yeah I ended up just throwing the contained quartz.dll in system32 in safe mode again. Although I wasn't able to install this update at least I'm back to no stutter again.

What about using one of the DirectX uninstallers and THEN try to install the latest version? I had the same issue with it skipping over the install which means as far as the OS is concerned everything is current. LOL, I updated to 2.2.2 of the Beta downleveled the quartz.dll file and I STILL have problems. I know I should probably open a trouble record with support, but I have a stubborn streak, and I work with this stuff for a living Not that it has helped all that much so far

I have not had good luck with the directx uninstallers
I had my windows folder on G:\ drive before and not sure if that was the problem
but I got errors and it could not finish the uninstall of directx
I have it back on C:\ drive but it was a painful process

but yeah if the uninstaller works correctly then yes you could install the newest version

Well I went back to the older quartz.dll file Wheemer provided and things seem to be pretty good, but I think I may have messed something up with my sage.properties file probably because of a custom recording encode I added that I don't think SAGE likes too much. It's weird because once I go off of my own custom version to something else the effect goes away. Now I am left with just one annoying thing and that is the panning is to me not very smooth; could still be tearing. So I continue to work on this project. I haven't really noticed any major improvements with the Beta version either....But even with all of the setbacks I am having fun with it and the flexibility far outweighs anything Tivo ever thought of offering.

man I do not think perfect pans are possible with this thing
even when I watch regular digital TV and the pans are not perfect
but the little jumps are more noticable when using SageTV

no sure what else there is to say
I am sure we will see a post in this thread saying that he/she has perfect pans everytime with their MX 440 and 1 GHz computer using VMR9 with nvidia decoders like normal
but I can suggest trying out nvidia post processor with choosing smart mode deinteralcing

What about the jumpy picture scenario? I've played around with the a,b,c,d settings dor dvxa and I've played with the deinterlacing options, however I've found no solution. When I'm running Beyond TV, this was resolved by using Exclusive Fullscreen mode. Does Sage have this mode?

Although my pans see to be perfect, tonight I'll watch the opening of The Tonight Show. That's the best test that I've seen regarding the tearing. However, with Beyond TV this Fullscreen mode totally illiminated that too.

What are the differences between the dvxa settings? And what is best for deinterlacing?

Thanks, BTW, if you want to roll back your Dirextx to version 8.1 from XP Sp1 take a look at my post here: http://forums.snapstream.com/vb/show...73&postcount=6

This was my previous advice on how to get (.0b back on when you already had 9.0c, but that deinstaller works perfect in safe mode.

Yeah, I am there with you about the settings for VPP and smart mode; it seems to be the best picture I have been able to obtain thus far but my desire is to get as decent a picture as TIVO (double encode not withstanding). I thought about playing with Dscaler some more but it is kinda frustrating that a $200 TIVO can outdo a $2500.00 box. Yes I know that is what TIVO is made for, but I truly believe that if I can get over some of the jerky pans, everything will be fine. Actually, when I was watching a DVD last night on my stand alone Denon I noticed some jerkiness with panning, so now I am apparently sensitive to panning (SCREAM)

i'm assuming this means that BTV supports full screen renderless under vmr9 the same as mediator, mce2005 and media player classic?

I wish SageTV would add this
I think it help in alot of the playback issues that alot of us have
I mean how many of us use SageTV in windowed mode other than to change settings on the nvidia decoders

I don't think so. I still had tearing with this mode in BTV. From what I can tell all it is doing is dropping the resolution down to something and setting the refresh rate to 60hz. With MCE or Meediator I have never been able to get a tear before stuttering starts.

Hey guys:

I am going to drop my resolution to 800x600 and see if things improve; I will report back when I have some definitive news..

Yeah I think it's more complicated than that. If you run reclock I know it reports Sage as running in VMR9 Renderless mode right now. I know Jeff is working on it, he had me try something, unfortunately it didn't work.

I have read that when you run in exclusive full screen mode it eliminates any buffering of the video stream before hitting the display. Currently, as I understand it, the way sage does it, everything is first being written to a buffer of some sort then going to the display. It IS this beffering that causes tearig and stuttering.

If I flick on my weather channel there is small white text accross the bottom of the page. In sage and in normal beyond tv this text is constantly jumping up and down. Sometimes it's not noticable as much as others. However, running beyond tv in exclusive fs mode totally and completely elimantes 98% of tearing and ALL of the jumpy text woes.

There may be different results with different hardware. But with my Nvidia 440mx in 800x600 beyond tv produced a much more solid picture than I can accomplish in sage.

The funny thing is, that is about the only thing that works better...

I was successfully in my setup of Beyond tv in using 1024 x 768 at 60htz, it's going out though svideo.

So that's what I was trying with sage for the last few days. I've now switched to 800x600 in hopes of reducing these issues...
