Any suggestions for converter software? I've tried several shareware apps and haven't found anything really impressive. I'm currently using xConverter and a Toshiba e740.

Had a guy at the gym stop me yesterday and ask me what model of iPod I was using. When I explained the difference between Sage/TiVo and iPod/PocketPC, he said that he would be updating his Xmas wishlist immediately.

I use Pinnacle Studio 8 to do the recompression.

Cheers

three little things

All I want in 3.0 is three little things:

1. Stability a la Sage 2.0
2. No more crashes
3. Crashless stability

I realize this post may sound very negative, and I suppose it is. But, I am and have long been a huge advocate of Sage. Ever since I moved this into the family room though, I gave up the opportunity to experiment and tweak -- these are things my wife doesn't understand or care to learn about. She just wants to watch TV.

Yes, please make this one standard in SageTV

and for the mp3 file directory browser, i'd like it to display ALL available metadata for an MP3. that is, it will show BOTH the ID3 tag info *AND* the directory/filename metadata.

so far only foobar does this correctly..

happy holidays--

A better way than a bunch of STVs with different features. This will only get worse if Studio is released.

Proper plug-in support for both creation of, and installation of, individual plug-ins instead of the current all or nothing STV's.

Want weather reports? Just d/l and install the Weather Report plug-in. Want a DVD catalog w/ IMDB and cover art? Just d/l and install the DVD plug-in. Want FLAC support in the music library? Just d/l and install the FLAC plugin.

These plugins should be able to be installed and used without worrying about STV's or other installed plugins. I don't know much about Studio but from playing around with a few STV's and hanging around in the customizations forum it appears that Studio requires pretty advanced development experience for anything of much use and also seems better suited to OEM's instead of end users.

BTW, has anybody read this yet? At the bottom of the 2nd page it says that there is 2 versions of Sage. SageTV Basic, a standalone PVR and Media Center that has all the music, DVD, and photos that is in the current Sage. The PDF is for version 2 but we know that v2 doesn't have a SageTV Basic.

I would assume it would also have 5.1 support native since competitors have had it for awhile now.

Would be nice to also see the ability to take and record video from a FireWire port instead of a tuner card, but that is just wishful thinking.

I would have to assume that 3.0 will allow remote scheduling. Somewhere a few months ago Dan said the structure was there so maybe it is now added and since they have sagetv.com and sagetv.net.

If you're talking DVDs, Sage already does 5.1 now.

I have been doing 5.1 DVD ouput for over a year now myself. Maybe he means with an included decoder.

to be truthful right now if sage 3.0 doesn't have renderless vmr9 then i really don't care to use it any more. it's too significant and native in mce 2005.

at this moment i'm seriously considering using sage on a remote machine strictly as a recorder and having a local machine w/ mce 2005 to watch sage recordings and use as a basic tim slip/simple recordings box.

Yeah, well...

I couldn't care LESS about computer based rendering. FOR ME, if there isn't a standalone set top box / extender equivalent, then I'll be disappointed. However based on their CES infor, I think there will be.

I am OUT of the business of having 5 computers in my house just to watch TV. I'll stick with my Media MVPs until the 'official' SageTV extender comes out. And if a SageTV extender never materializes, then I'll live with the Media MVP solution until something better comes along.

So VMR9 is meaningless to those of us wanting to use thin clients.

what's wrong with 5 computers for watching Tv?? =)

I can't give up the computer for a MVP or a similar thin-client until it supports playing DVDs and HDTV

at any rate - what is the CES information that you refer to?
