imported files start playing in the middle

I'm having some difficulties playing back some files shared across the network. I'm not sure if it's a problem with the files themselves or if it's something with Sage.

Here's what's up:
I have a dedicated file server set up with shared drives /XP home. I have several .ts files captured thru firewire with capdvhs. I can access these files with my htpc and within Sage. Windvd6 plays these fine across the network (little stutter every now and then, aggravating). This part of the network is Gig-E.

Sage can access these files and attempt to play them back. I understand the muxer has limited support for .ts files. Playback of these files have choppy audio and start at the beginning as they should. File sizes range from 6Gb to 19Gb. Only files with DD5.1 will play, DD2.0 gives me an audio render error.

Attempting to play these .ts files from other machines in my house is more difficult (100Mb lan on that part) and extremely choppy, but playback starts at the beginning as it should....using windvd or media player classic.

In an attempt to remove windvd6 from the picture, I have converted 8-10 of these files to ps mpeg's using hdtv2mpeg2. Sage plays these a lot better and without any audio problems (Even the DD2.0 ones!)...but, sage starts playing them halfway thru. Actually a little more than half of the movie. I see the time bar and it will usually show the movie as being only 20-30 minutes. The arrow is at the beginning but what's playing is in the middle--more towards the end. I have to hit rewind a bunch of times to get back to the beginning. Then the time will show something like -1:20:34 (depending on the movie). Every file I have converted operates this way. They start playing over an hour into the movie. Windvd6, MPC, and WMP play these fine and start at the beginning from every computer on the network (I have 6 on the LAN).

Just for S&G ($hits and giggles), I copied a few of these files to the htpc to play back locally. You guessed it, they start at the beginning of the file. Any ideas why the networked files won't play from the beginning in Sage? Is there some issue with size of the files? There may not be much help for this one. So far Sage is the only software to start playing these in the middle--across the LAN.

Thanks to anyone with ideas. I would think about submitting this as a bug, but not sure if Sage really even supports mpeg files that are in HD.

Sometimes my imported videos have strange problems with the display length and playback bar aswell. Try removing your import directory, wait a minute and then re add it. This will force Sage to reimport the video.

Not sure if it'll work, as I've no experience with the media type you're describing.

Thanks Wheemer. I tried that as well... H2 dumps a standard mpeg2 file with DD. Should be no different than an extracted dvd, except for the resolution.

FYI, It starts at the same frame every time. It will take some time, but I need to figure out if it's starting at the same timecode for each movie. I'll have to mark down which frame it starts on and open the file with another player and see what time code it is. Actually, since it shows it starts at 00:00 for each movie, I should be able to rewind to the beginning to get the negative timecode and compare that between all the files. That would be easier.

Well, I removed the shares, and set them back up. I also changed the user/password I was using to run the service. Somewhere it fixed the problem. Probably just like you said Wheemer. Maybe I needed to do the remove/add a few more times.
