Playback error-problem rendering video portion

I just installed a Hauppauge PVR 150MCE in a Win2K machine. I've installed all the updated drivers, updated my BIOS, updated my video driver and installed the trial version of Sage TV. It recognizes the PVR card in Sage and most all of the other features appear to be working. When I try to watch live TV I get this error message:

"There was a playback error in playback. Details: sage. PlaybackExeption: ERROR (-4,0X80040217): There was a problem rendering the video poriton of the content for playback."

Any ideas how to fix this or what could be causing the error? Any help would be much appreciated.

That problem is most likely related to the codec that you are using to decode the video. I often have the same problem when I use the NVidia decoders (although they work sometimes), but I never get the problem using Sonic decoders.

So, the question is... What decoders are you using, and also, are you using VRM9, Overlay, or Default as a renderer? I have had situations where I would get that error with certain combinations of render / decoder, so you might want to try switching some of those settings.

I'm using VMR9 and the default video decoder because there are no other options given. I tried to install the Intervideo decoder from the Hauppauge website but for some reason it crashes when I run the .exe file for the installation of the decoder. Where does one obtain the Sonic decoder you speak of?

Well, the Sonic DVD Decoders cost $15, but you can get them here. You can get the NVidia decoders here for $20, or do the 30-day trial.

If there are no other decoders other than Default listed, then it seems that you may not have any decoders on your system, which I assume would explain your error. What version of Sage are you using? The newer (Beta) versions come with a SageTV decoder, which would be a free way to go about it.

Selecting Default will choose the decoder that has the highest priority on your system, but if there are no decoders, it doesn't do you any good... If you want more info on codecs, do a search in the forums for either codec or decoder and you should find plenty of threads.

Hope that helps...
