MP3 playback issues...

WHenever I play an MP3 there is no audio. The song is playing but no sound until I rewind the song, then the audio starts. I have tried this with this with motherboard onboard audio and as well as a SBlive card. This has been an issue through 3 clean installs of Windows and Sage.

Also, I do not get any visualizations. I use a Hauppauge 350 with the S-Video output option to the TV to control Sage. I am thinking it is not using the visuals because the visuals are associated with Windows and will only display if Sage is seen through the pc's video card. Is this a correct assumption?

Is there a way to get Sage to have viz effects when playing an MP3 through the Hauppauge S-video output?

Sage TV and music playback issues...

I have been using Sage TV for close to 2 years now and have always had this problem (Started with V2 and now using V4).

When I play music and select a song to play I hear no sound until I fast forward, then songs play, but after a few minutes, sound goes away but Sage is still playing music, if I hit FF again, I hear sound.

I use Hauppauge 350 and 150 for recording tv and playback, but I use a SBlive for audio rendering. I also use the 350 s-video output for display on my tv.

Any clues as to why this is happening or ways to fix it?

Same here.

I really hope they spend some time soon enhancing the music portion of Sage.

I have the same problem on 6.1.9 and the latest release 6.2.10 when trying to play my MP3 library. Very frustrating.

* Some songs start playing fine, some play but are silent. Note, playback does not stop - only the sound goes silent as if it were on mute.

* A FF or RW will get the sound back on.

* If a the sound dies mid-song, and you RW, it will likely silence at the same spot.

* Occasionally a song will not go silent, but will actually broadcast whitenoise until a FF/RW is pressed.

* If the sound dies, it requires a new song to get the sound going (assuming the song starts ok) or a FF/RW.

Any thoughts on this? I know this is an old posts, but this is what came up when searching and I'm hoping to revitalize this thread.

Thanks for any help!
Al

Hi folks, just trying to bump this to see if anyone else has the same issue? This is really annoying because I simply can't use Sage to listen to music without considerable dead air.

Every other player works fine with my MP3's...

Report it to SageTV. They may want a sample file that is has the problem.

Sometimes I forget that option exists. <grin> Thanks Andy, I'll give that a go.

Did you ever get any resolution to this? I have the same problem. It pretty much makes the music playback unusable.

Not yet, but I'll post up when/if I do. I've sent a sample file to support and am waiting on further thoughts from the Sage folks.

I was able to get around this by using the WMP plugin and having it play MP3s so this is an option if you are using Windows.

Doesn't look so good. I'm cutting/pasting my conversation with support over the past couple of weeks.

If anyone has any files or programs they know have created MP3 files that are failing, please contact support and reference this thread.

Read from the BOTTOM to the TOP.

If we knew what tool you used to create it then we might be able to find
what the bug is in that tool so we can have a valid workaround for it; but
otherwise anything we add would be a guess that it would actually work.

Maybe try creating a new mp3 with any of your programs and see if that works
or not and let us know.

Thanks for all your help with this George, look forward to hearing about a
possible resolution.

AL

Al,

Yes we have the file and are still working on fixing the issue. The
developers just wanted a little more information is all. If you don't have
it, that is fine. They will continue working on fixing the issue.

George

-----Original Message-----

Hi George!

Well, like I said I don't think I'll be able to help as much as I'd like to
be able to. I don't know the name of what I used last time around.

Besides, if something is wrong with the file - don't you have everything you
need? I guess I'm confused as to why you need to replicate something you
already have? If you think something's wrong with the file, then so be it.
Maybe the application I used screwed up a bunch of my conversions (something
I'll have to deal with and fix over time).

However, the problem I have is that Sage can't play through them, while all
other media players I've tried can (WMP11, WMP on my mobile device, Winamp,
etc).

Let me know your thoughts...thanks again for the help,
AL

-----Original Message-----

Al,

Yes there was and we were wondering what you used to create that file so
that we can try to reproduce it here or find out what is causing it.

George

-----Original Message-----

Oh man, who knows. I've used all kinds of various apps to do it over the
years. Just about once a year I get caught up on converting my CD's to
MP3's, and I usually try and use whatever was bundled with the last PC I
bought. I honestly don't know what I used.

Is there something wrong with the file I gave you?

AL

-----Original Message-----

Al,

What did you use to create this MP3 file?

George

-----Original Message-----

Hey George, thanks for the reply.

Attached is a song that does it. Won't start playing without a FF or RW.
Also silences consistently at 55 seconds into the song.

I don't seem to have issues playing these songs on my PC with WMP11, or with
my WM5 phone.

Appreciate any thoughts on this!
AL

-----Original Message-----

Al,

Are the same MP3's that have issues? Can you send me an example of one of
your smaller MP3's.

Let me get a copy of your System Information print out. Go to Setup > Help
> System Information screen and hit the Info button (defaults to CTRL-I
> on
your keyboard). A txt file named "SystemInfo.txt" will be created in your
SageTV folder. In Vista this fill will probably be placed in
C:\Users\me\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\SageTV. Send me that
file.

Thanks,

George

REQUEST DESCRIPTION:

Taken from my post here:

I have the same problem (Edit: reference post, it's regarding MP3 playback
issues) on 6.1.9 and the latest release 6.2.10 when trying to play my MP3
library. Very frustrating.

* Some songs start playing fine, some play but are silent. Note, playback
does not stop - only the sound goes silent as if it were on mute.

* A FF or RW will get the sound back on.

* If a the sound dies mid-song, and you RW, it will likely silence at the
same spot in the song.

* Occasionally a song will not go silent, but will actually broadcast
whitenoise until a FF/RW is pressed.

* If the sound dies, it requires a new song to get the sound going (assuming
the song starts ok) or a FF/RW.

Any thoughts on this? I know this is an old posts, but this is what came up
when searching and I'm hoping to revitalize this thread.

Thanks for any help!

Interesting. I have used J River Media Center for all my ripping so I really doubt there's a "problem with the tool". The fact that JRMC and WMP can handle the files without any problems should indicate that Sage can too...

Yeah. Well, if you could send Sage Support an actual failing file as well as let them know this info (create a support request) it might help them to resolve this.

Sorry, it is not really feasible for me to send them a 320kbps file with my dial-up connection - but I will try to find a small one. Another interesting data point is that my MVP has no problems playing the files that exhibit this problem on my server.

Still the same problems....

Hi All,

I've been experiencing the "silent mp3 until you FF or RW" issue with v6.3 so it's still not fixed. It only happens with some of my songs and is really annoying.

I see in this thread that a workaround is to use the wmpPlugin but I can't get it working on v6.3. With the plugin installed as per the instructions, all my songs show as unknown in the library and none of them play so it's like Sage is asking wmp for the info but not getting a response? Also the "Play DVD/CD" menu is missing. Doe anyone know if this plugin is compatible with SageTV 6.3/WMP11 on XP?

Well years later and now paid for the version 6 upgrade....

Sage still fails with my MP3 collection. It wont play until i hit FF or Rewind. Plays one song, then next song falls silent.

For what its worth, I ripped the bulk of my MP3 collection 8 years ago with one of the LAME Mp3 encoders, if I remember correctly the process starts in windows and then part of the process popped up in a cmd line/dos window in windows.

Re-ripping 400 Cd's isnt an option, and I tried specifying in the sage properties file with no working solution.
