DVI connections

I have a Geforce 5700 with DVI and VGA outputs and a Sony XBR LCD Projection TV with DVI and Component inputs. Unfortunately, the DVI input on the Sony Projection LCD is not compatible with computer DVI. I'm not sure what's the difference between the computer and TV DVI's, but they are not the same. Its there a DVI converter to make it work from computer to TV? Or is there a general computer DVI to Component converter? I know ATI makes one for their Radeon cards, will it work with a Geforce 5700 card also? Thanks for any help.

They are the same, there is no difference.

that answer doesn't help me much as the TV manual clearly says "THe DVI-HDTV input terminal is compliant with the EIA-861 standard and is not intended for use with personal computers." So what are my options? Read tis link which has more info on DVI standards. The question is which standard is on on a Geforce 5700?

That warning is just there so that they don't have to offer support for people using PCs. But if you're that worried, read Chapter 7:
ftp://download.nvidia.com/Windows/67...sers_Guide.pdf

FWIW, TVs have always said they don't work with PCs, but they pretty much always have. In the early days it required a VGA->Component transcoder, but with TVs coming with DVI/HDMI, nothing is needed. The only difference between an HDTV and a monitor is the HDTV doesn't support as many resolutions, and some don't report the correct ones.

thanks for the info, I think I need to update the nvidia driver for DVI-HDTV support.

I've got a KF-60XBR800 and my manual says the same thing - not for PC use. I've had my ATI9500 connected to it for almost two years now and no problems with the display. It should work fine. You can also go to AVSForum and search on connecting the Sony GWII/III to HTPCs. My ATI works great without having to use PowerStrip. I've used PS in the past with no problems, but the latest Catalyst drivers support the HDTV resolutions with no problem.
