Reading DVD Long Play files on Macintosh

For some reason, I cannot open and edit files created by SageTV on my Macintosh. I found a program called "DropDV" that converts to DV, but that format takes up about 12GB / hour. Plus, when I convert MPEG2 files to DV and back I am loosing a lot of quality. I bought the Quicktime plugin for MPEG2 but still cannot recognize the files.

When I use UNIX tools to decode the file it works, so it is some sort of Apple thing. Any ideas? I am using "DVD Long Play" settings in Sage. The only reason I'm doing this is that my DVD writer is in the Mac. Plus the Mac is superior for creating and editing movies to the PC (yes, I know, not in this case )
