dvd playback woes

so far the beta is fine, except for dvd playback. i've looked for more info on this, but couldn't find any:

my dvd shows up in the library, acts like it's going to play, then spits out this error:

There was an error with the MPEG-2 video setup. Failed connecting video stream to the Overlay Mixer. ErrCode=0x-7ffbfde9

i've tried setting both audio and video decoders to all available options except elecard because i read that wouldn't work. my other options are: default, cyberlink and hauppauge.

i just get black screen, no sound, but sageTV doesn't crash.

my set up is winXP, hauppauge PVR250, not using DScaler.
