Best way to hook my PVR-250MCE up.
Hi guys, I just recently bought my first capture card. It is a Hauppauge PVR-250MCE. It has coaxal in, fm tuner, s-video in, and composite in. I am going to hook it up through a digital cable box. My digital cable box has the coaxal out, but it also has composite out. To reach my pc, it will have to be about a 50 foot cable. Here are the options I think I have:
1. Use the 50 foot s video cable. I will need a svideo to rca convertor ($20). I would guess that would drop though quality. 2. Buy a 50 foot rca cable off ebay for $19. How to rca cables at this length perform? 3. Run a coaxal cable straight from the outputs on the digital cable box. I would have to switch the cable every time I want to watch tv on my computer though. 4. Use a cable splitter to split the signal so I can run one cable to my tv and other to my PVR. Would this drop the quality any? This is my first PVR card. I plan on running Sage TV. It looks like the best app for this out there. I hope I posted this in the right section. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

I would say that the easiest way is to move the digital cable box closer to the pc and use a standard 6' set of composite cables. Then use longer cables to get the computer A/V output to the tv.
How did you plan on controlling the digital cable box from 50'? You'd probably need an RF remote to turn channels on the computer. The right answer may be to bypass the digital cable box for now and get Sage working well then implement the box. These long distances are also why SageTV Client exist. |

My computer and the digital cable box are in 2 different rooms. Can I control the digital cable box with my pvr card or no? Moving the digital cable box isn't really an option. Without the digital cable box, quality would suffer wouldn't it? Thanks in advance.
