SageTV crashed and won't restart

Hey all, have a bit of a problem. Was happily watching TV when SageTV crashed out (Thankfully Family Guy had ended!) and now it won't restart. When I try to start it I get an error box that reads:

Java Exception
An exception occurred in Java; java.lang.nullpointerexception

Any idea how to fix this? For the record, I'm running Sage 2.0 (haven't bothered to upgrade since it (had) worked fine.

Thanks for any help on this!

If you've already rebooted & that doesn't help, then perhaps either wiz.bin or sage.properties has gotten corrupted. Try deleting those files & their backups (after making copies elsewhere). If SageTV does start OK after that, try replacing one of those files at a time to see which one is bad. If wiz.bin blows it up, try wiz.bak. If wiz.bin & wiz.bak both are bad, see if you have a older backup copy, or else you will lose all your recorded show details & viewing history info. (version 2.2 _should_ be more stable in terms of the wiz.bin database.)

If those files have nothing to do with the problem, is there a java log file in the SageTV dir that might offer more clues as to what is going wrong?

Thanks for the advice. I'll check those out once I get home from work.

Is the new version a free upgrade? Would I have to set up everything from scratch, or would it copy existing settings?

Yes, it is a free upgrade & the link is in my sig lines.

When I install a new version, I simply make a backup copy of the entire SageTV installation dir tree & then install over the top of the old one. 1) It keeps all the current settings and 2) the backup enables me to uninstall the new version, reinstall the old one, & copy over the backup dirs if the new version has a serious problem.
