For the record, I don't own any shares in SageTV, and I am not connected to BeyondTV or any other similar company.

My comments about Sage were from the POV of a concerned customer. Contrary to what you seem to be implying, I do want them to survive and grow (for selfish reasons - I like the product).

Sorry but this is an issue that has been run over more than a couple times now already and Jeff and Dan have given their responses to the issues more than once as well so for me it's not only a mute issue but one that seems to keep trying to throw my money and everyone elses at them without even so much as a by your leave. Sorry but i have always gotten a bit testy when people try to reach into my pockets and take my money like that.

I don't mind paying for things im not a everything should be free so shut up comunist type like someone else has implied but im also not someone who wants to be bleed dry either by constant fees for every little thing as seams to getting to be the trend with many companies. If i was i would just go buy a tivo instead.

I like the product myself and i also would like to see Sage grow and survive as well but not if they are just going to turn into another Snapstream or something like that. If they turn around and say we need more money so we are going to charge for the upgrades then fine i would be willing to do that as i said before as long as they don't go to far with it. I also said before i wouldn't mind paying for plugins that the company may come out with but i still draw the line at paying more for additional tuners thats something which to my mind is just over the top. It doesn't cost them anything for somebody to put in another tuner on their system so why should they get paid for it? This is also part of what the product was meant to do and why we bought it in the first place because we could use multi tuners to record shows on different channels. Why now should we have to pay extra for something we paid for to begin with?

Thats snapstreams "fuzzy think" and i would hate for sage to start doing something like that. Theirs plenty of ways for sage to make money and they do make money on not only the Sagetv server but sagetv client and sagerecorder as well as their bundled products so i don't think their in danger of going out of buisness or hurting for cash if they were they already know what to do. Charge for upgrades, Charge for their plugins and they could even charge a nominal fee for their mpeg filters as well as putting out pay for STV's to further improve the product.

Anyway sorry for the implacations but i have seen this issue being beaten to death on the forums before and as Jeff and Dan have said SageTV is doing fine their not hurting for money so why don't you belive them? It's also that fact that after seeing this so often I get to question why some people are so determined to get sage to charge more and thats why responded with that last post it as I said gets my mind rolling and at a time when im quiting smoking to so I guess that hasn't helped me with my responses. I could so kill a lion with my bare hands for a smoke right now.

No! not the 21st! battlefield 2 comes out the 21st and i pre-ordered! Pre-ordered! I need to play with that for like the first week 24/7 without worring about a beta.

Either put it out now or wait till next month!

J/K I'll let sage cut into my game time but only cause i love it so.

I, for one, would be really ticked off if they tried to charge me extra because I have 6 tuners. That was the main reason Snapstream got none of my money (and I'm glad too because I like Sage much better anyways). I'm very happy with Sage (except for the Studio thing which we won't go into here).

And to keep things on topic, I hope 3.0 will be out soon!

Yup, charging extra for multiple tuners would not be cool. That is the main reason that I went with Sage in the first place.

MCE only allowed 2 tuners, and BTV charged for more than 2 tuners. I might have gone with BTV and paid for extra tuners if I was able to fully test it out, but in Snapstream's infinite wisdom, the initial 2 tuner limit exists even in the trial mode. I had 3 tuners at that point and could not test out BTV to my satisfaction.

So, I installed Sage's trial, got it working and never looked back.

I totally agree. How many of us bought into Sage *mainly* because of the unlimited tuner feature? Now that would be an interesting poll.

Not me. I wouldn't care about spending more per tuner (just as I don't mind it for BTV either).

But I am in the minority on that opinion, I'm sure.

I wouldn't want to pay per tuner, that's like Microsoft selling me Windoze and charging me extra to be able to install software. I would however pay a higher upfront cost or for upgrades.

BTW - SageTV has about 30 minutes before they miss their deadline! Well I guess they can get a 2nd shot at it if we go by west coast time

I'm the jerk that is actually rooting against them a little

Me neither...I bought into Sage because it was fairly flexible for my various TV setups in various countries, particularly with the streaming from the server, as well as it's general robustness and overall flexibliity and stability.

To me, there is nothing more important than having a system which be relied upon to do my recordings, and can be left for weeks without the need for tweaking or other intervention. Sage has largely achieved this for me now. That is worth more to me than having to pay $30 or whatever for the ability to plug in an extra tuner card.

Only a matter of time until a competitor comes out with a stable product that makes Sage yesterday's news... Hope there is something good in 3.0 when it comes out.

Looking forward to it.

Probably not... I'm sure it is on its way though. And I am choosing to be optimistic that it will be more than a minor/evolutionary update.

I hear that it will increase your attractiveness to women.

...and make coffee

...but you'll only be able to choose how many sugars you want when they release Studio shortly after the main release.

Nick.
