SageTV 2.2.8 crashing

If I am watching anything, either a recorded show or an imported video file, and the time comes for one of my favorites to start recording, SageTV crashes to the desktop with no error messages.

When I restart SageTV, it starts to record what was scheduled.

Has anyone experienced this?

Thanks,
HTPCDude

Some questions for anyone who might be able to suggest something:
  • What tuner are you using? Are its drivers up to date?
  • Are there any log files in the SageTV directory?
  • What decoder are you using? Are it & the video card drivers up to date?
  • What version of java are you using? Have you tried updating it?
  • Is 3D Acceleration enabled in Detailed Setup - > Advanced? Did you try disabling it? Is your DirectX installation up to date?

apparently it's extremely easy to break java if you've tried installing any of the custom stv's as well. I tried Cayars and put the Java files where they were supposed to go and managed to cause Sage to break very badly. At first I thought it was just sage, but an uninstall and clean install later proved me incorrect. I had to uninstall java and reinstall it from the sage installation. The latest java didn't cause sage to be happy after installing it. I suggest uninstalling java and running the sage install (I think you can choose repair at that point and the embedded java install will run) and see if that fixes your problem if your video card/capture card drivers are already up to date.
