Basic Setup Question
Currently I have a copy of SageTV (full) running on a small PC that has a WinTV PVR 350 in it.
This is connected to my HD Samsung TS360 Directv receiver, which i cannot control reliably through IR, and the serial interface is crestron (so I haven't figured that out either). I do have another Directv box in another room that is just a standard box. What I was thinking of doing was hooking up a PC to that as well, and having that record stuff, and then using my current PC (which is a nice shiny shuttle that sits next to my main TV) as a playback machine, and possibly doing other recordings when I have overlapping shows. I should be able to control the other Directv receiver using a serial cable, as it is not another Samsung HD box, although I need to confirm that first What do I need to do this? Can I install another copy of Sage on another PC, and use a card like the PVR 150 to record all my stuff, and then stream it across to the main pc? If so, can I use the Remote Control still? I'm not really sure how the client/server connectivity works between 2 copies of sage that's all Thanks for the help/advice in advance, and apologies for posting a 'newbie' question. |

Oh, and if I do create this kind of setup, can I schedule recordings on the 2nd Sage PC in the other room, using the remote and the PC in the main room? Or do you have to schedule the recordings actually on the instance of Sage that is doing the recording?
Thanks |

You need a copy of SageTV (full) for recording with the standard directv box, and a copy of SageTV Client for the shuttle pc connected to your main TV. The SageeTV Client machine will allow you to fully control the other SageTV PC. Also you need a separate remote control for the client box, unless you can somehow run the infrared receiver on the PVR-150 to the other PC.
on more thing, if you get a second PVR-150 for your shuttle pc, you can set that up to control the other directx box (maybe use a USB-UIRT blaster if serial cable is not working) and use it as a second tuner via network. So you can record two shows at once. I've read that it's how network tuners work, but haven't seen anyone actually done it. Maybe someone else here can confirm this.

Hey, thanks for the response.
Finally dug out the manual and looked into connecting Sage Server and Client together, but there was not much (that I could see) about connecting 2 copies of Sage (Full) together and using them both to record stuff, but only using one as a Front End with a Remote. I'll have another hunt through the forums and see if there is anything about that that I might have missed Thanks |

If you mean using a full copy of SageTV as a network encoder + client, that was mentioned here.

Excellent, that's (probably) exactly what I need.
Well, as it looks as though it is 90% certain I can do what I want, I'll go buy another license and another tuner card Thanks for the help. |
