Preferred decoder

I just got my 2nd tuner card today and was wondering... Since it's supposed to be a better card than my PVR 250 (It's an ATI 550 chip, by powercolor), is there any way to set it as the one that will be used by default, if it is not already in use?

It seems like I've seen this somewhere, but I just looked through all the menu settings and don't see it anywhere... I'm running Sage 2.27 and Cayars 17.

Thanks,
Paul

ptaylor,
p. 180 in the manual
in the sage.properties file find the following line for the encoders and assign each one a number other than "0".
mmc/encoders/########/encoder_merit=0

e.g.
mmc/encoders/1234567890/encoder_merit=2
.....
mmc/encoders/0987654321/encoder_merit=1

The encoder 1234567890 has the the higher value and will get priority.

You may have to do it more than once to find which ########## corresponds to which encoder card.

Thanks, I felt certain that I had seen something about it in the forums... I thought it was done somehow via the GUI, but I don't mind messing with the config file...

Will be curious to see if your new encoder card works with Sage, and if it really does make a visible difference.

There have been a couple threads on the 550, and in generall I think the consensus (if there is one) is that it doesn't live up to the hype. It's probably slightly better than the 250, but the 150 is at least as good as the 550 by most accounts.

Well, I see a small difference in video quality, but I'm still only viewing it on my TV... If I had a monitor to watch TV on with a higher resolution, it would probably be more noticable...

Of course, it depends on what I'm watching too, I'm sure...
