Recording disappeared - Why ?

It's happened a couple of times now and i am perplexed..

A favorite program (Still Standing) was recorded on Monday evening.
The next day when i went to the watch it, it wasn't there.

I KNOW it was recorded as i had seen it in the recordings list.
Pretty sure my eyes were not playing tricks as I still have the comskip files showing up on the orphan files list.

All the time I had about 80GB of free space so Autodelete shouldn't have kicked in.

Here are the changes i have made recently -
1. Changed the favourite to keep last 3 episodes instead of ALL.
2. Upgraded from Sage 2.2.4 & Cayars17 to Sage 2.2.8 & Cayars18E

I wonder if this is a bug related to any of these ?

Any ideas ?

Some ideas that may or may not be relevant... Is the file still on the drive, just not shown in SageTV? Do you already have a couple recordings for that fav & they were marked as Manual Recordings, so to keep only 3, it had to delete the one that it was allowed to get rid of? Were there more airings of the show that pushed that one out, even though it was recent? (How many of that fav are currently recorded?) Is something like Norton Protected Recycle Bin active on that drive, saving deleted files, so while it looks like there is space available, SageTV thinks it needs to delete something?

I'm guessing there weren't any more airings. This particualr show airs just once a week.

This drive is already excluded from AV protection.

More info -
This is the second time this has happened since last week - on two different shows. It may not mean anything but i think I have been able to recollect a scenario that was common.

The first time this happened - I had deleted a show - only to find that Sage had deleted another show alongwith the one i wanted to delete. I thought i had made a mistake.
This time - my wife deleted some shows - and later we found that this particular show was missing. I am sure she didn't delete this show. It's her fav and she's pretty careful about her favs.

My wild guess is something has caused the "delete" command to start deleting extra files.

either that - or something has caused "my wife and I" to start deleting extra files.

If that is the case, we need to watch what we eat! and drink! and smoke!

I am pretty sure we're not there yet though.....

this is more preventative medicine but i owuld change everything to manual delete. true, you have to start deleting things yourself, but at least you know your recordings aren't going anywhere. and as an added plus, you keep tabs on sage going haywire during a marathon, recording the same show 8 times in a row.

I agree manual delete would be a good choice especially for someone like me who doesn't use IR and manually deletes stuff anyway.

However, my hunch is that this issue was not caused by autodelete. I feel the recordings somehow got deleted when another recording was deleted manually.

I've already chaged all my favs to keep "ALL" episodes.
I am going to keep a close watch for sometime and see if it happens again.

Cayars18E the culprit?

Just wondering if you have figured this one out.

I recently had the same thing happen with 2 different shows about a week apart. First was an Inside the Actors Studio episode and second was an episode of NUMBERS. The most recent just happened today. The odd thing is that the files that are deleted are not the original Sage recordings. I personally only use Sage for recording purposes and my playback is done on the TV in the living room using XBOX Media Center. The files that were missing were edits with the commercials removed. My current workflow is to have Sage handle all the recording into a folder called "Uncompressed".

Each evening (or day off) I go through and run the files through ShowAnalyzer to detect the commercials and then load up the files in VideoRedo to check the edits. I add the jobs to a batch list and walk away for a while. When I get back, all is well. The new files have the same name except have "no com" placed in front. I usually then delete the files with the commercials in them and all the orphaned files from the commercial detection and removal.

***(OK, this is just too strange, while typing this just this moment I watched the restored file (brought back with Smart Undelete) disappear from the explorer window! Just gone, bam, not there. Luckily I restored to another drive and copy it back over. Perhaps renaming will help.)

Just for information purposes. After the commercials have been removed I usually compress the files using AutoGK and save to a folder that happens to be the parent to the recording folder entitled simply "TV Recordings". The no commercial mpg's are then deleted to reclaim space.

Any thoughts on this crazy behavior? Should I just revert back to standard Sage and live without the few benefits of Cayars for my application, or is that not the culprit at all?

Thanks in advance for any help,

David

i never did figure it out. It just didn't happen after that.

What's apparantly common between your and my situations is the Sage 2.2.8 + Cayars18E.
I wasn't using IR and i'm guessing you aren't either ?

I suspect something made Sage feel these recordings were incomplete and had to be deleted- a duration mismatch between the epg and the file ...could be caused by the epg, the stv or in your case the postprocessing. This is obviously a wild uninformed guess.

My recommendation - upgrade to V3. I use the default v3 STV + Neilm's dynamic menu + plugins + SA + DirMon. Looks and works exactly like Cayars - only better.

alittle off topic but it "looks" like Cayars? I am still waiting for a mini guide and a two pane horizontal recordings screen that has all of the sort features that cayar's has

Could be something of that sort. Only the files that are deleted have the "no com" before the rest of the file name. Would Sage recognize the file that is renamed this way? All the rest of the filename is still there, just the "no com" added to the front. I've been looking into the v3 but I just had everything set up the way I like it and I haven't been ready to start again. Perhaps I'll just have to bite the bullet and do it.

On a side note, renaming the file by removing the show ID numbers from the end did prevent the file from being deleted again while I was out today. Perhaps that is the key here?
