How to tune dish301?
Hello all and thanks for the help. I have looked all over the FAQ's and searched this but I am still very confused.
Can I change my dish satellite channel and Sage w/o using the dish remote? I am using sagetv v2 and have a usbuirt. Should I be using the hauppage remote that came with my pvr-250? My apologies for the blunt questions, if more dertails are needed let me know. Obviously I am still new to all of this. TIA, Eric |

I've posted a link to the .ir code for DISH receivers. THey are almost all the same that I have seen. Drop that file into your remote folder, and setup your source for your dish. Assign it to a tuner, external tuner, usbuirt, and choose the file from the zip below. For some reason if that doesn't work let me know and I'll grab my codes for my 4900 and email it to you. Should be the exact same codes.
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...18&postcount=5 Use any remote you want if you are going to accept input from the USBUIRT. YOu just have to teach SAGETV to use what buttons. --Mike Please excuse some of my loose translation of menu items... I"m doing it from memory, and my wife is yelling something about its time to leave!

Thanks for the help Mike, I am getting to where I need to be (slowly!).
Anyway, most keys that I configure work just fine except dealing with channel changing. No matter what channel I try to change to the dish box will only go to channel 1 or 2. Any ideas where I went wrong? TIA - Eric |

Besure put in C:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\Common\RemoteCodes\USB-UIRT Transceiver\ folder and rerun the source setup with in SageTV Last edited by SHS; 07-02-2005 at 08:45 PM. |

Check the repeat count setting at the top of the file. I believe I had to set mine to 10 to get a good change everytime.
uirt1 56000 0 3 600 800 RepeatCount 10 0 0000 0048 0000 0011 0017 ...... This is the first couple line of my file.. Let me know. --Mike

well I spoke too soon! I added the repeat count as suggested, all channels change ok except the any channel with the number 0. The 0's are not being transmitted. Channel 107 only transmits 17 and so on...
I tried to remove the linked command to 0 and relink it with the same results. Any ideas? |

There is a confirmed working file on the wiki at:
http://www.sage-community.org/index....ki/DishNetwork unzip it to your: C:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\Common\RemoteCodes\USB-UIRT Transceiver\ folder and rerun the source setup with in SageTV, just like SHS said. You shouldn't have to mess with the repeat codes on this file. Are you using remote emitters, or just the blaster on the front? It's possible things aren't getting to the STB. You may want to look into getting some remote emitters to stick on the front of the STB. |

obviously I am still new at this, but I think the transmission is ok to the Satellite Box. Reason being is I can tune to 118, 4, 5, 11, 231, 161, etc fine. I only have issues when there is a '0' in the channel. Like 10 goes to channel 1, 105 goes to 15, 230 goes to 23 and so on.
I tried both files in your attachment, w/o luck. The Usbuirt is within inches of the remote windows of my dishdp301. I can see the red light flash for each channel change, 3 lights for 3 digit channels and so on. Sorry for making this hard! Again...any help is appreciated. Thanks, Eric |

I agree ew that if '0' is the only number... I don't believe its a transmission error, but I have seen some strange things. I guess you could point you UIRT right at your 301 several inches back, and that would rule out transmission errors.
I had to use the Repeatcount line to make the files work with my 4900.... I know crashless said you shouldn't have too, but for some reason I did. UIRT1 file should be all you need if you have 1 receiver set to remote code 1. I've compared the files and they are identical. I'm at loss except for maybe reinstalling the UIRT... I know its a cop out, but I'm not sure what else to tell you at this point. Let us know your status. --Mike

The best thing is to get IR eye and tape in front of the Dish box
But what may want try doing is reprograming 0 in sagetv. |

Try using the .ir file in the zip as a base, and reprogram the '0' code only. Let us know - Good luck! |

Just to make sure, When I program the remote from sage
detailed setup, commands, link ir keystroke to sage tv command and for this I am using the Dish Remote and not the Hauppage remote right? Finally how can I tell which remote code my receiver is (1 or 2)? as always, thanks for your time. Last edited by ew25950; 07-14-2005 at 05:51 PM. |

Oh, no no no. The world makes sense again. You're programming SAGE to REACT to your dish commands, not for Sage to CONTROL your dish commands.
To teach your dish commands to sage so it can control the STB you have to go into the encoder setup. I'm not at home to tell you the exact menu, but it's not in the detailed setup. You have to program different commands to that part of sage so that you don't change the channels on the STB ever. You tell Sage what to turn to, then Sage actually does the changing on the STB. In order to teach Sage the codes yourself, go to encoder setup (I think) select your recording device (hauppauge, whatever), then learn IR codes. This is in the manual somewhere - where's Opus when you need him? I'm sure this is confusing, as I haven't explained it well, but if you open the PDF manual that is in your SageTV directory, there's a section on how to do this. Take a look, and see if that helps your situation. |

For the manual locations: you're looking for the tuning plugin selection/configuration process that starts on p. 114 of the v2.2 manual - step 5 of Source Setup. Or, Source Details (p. 120) has Remote Control Options to reprogram and/or test the IR codes.
