Changing Skip forward/reverse length

Where can you change the length of time the skip forward and skip reverse buttons work?

I found what I thought was it in the sage.properties file, but I don't think it did anything, because it seems to still do 10s both ways. And yes, I restarted SageTV. I am not sure if I found the proper place to make the change, and if there is anything else I need to do to make the change take effect.

Thanks

You can modify the properties file of Sage(TV/Recorder) to change how much time it goes for skip forward and skip back. Make sure you exit the applications before making the changes. Go to lines:

videoframe/ff_time
and
videoframe/rew_time

They're in milliseconds, ff time must be positive and rew time must be negative. i.e. to have 30 second skip forward and 10 second skip back you'd do:

videoframe/ff_time=30000
videoframe/rew_time=-10000

Thanks, Dan. I tried it, and I think the reason it didn't stick was because the application was running when i changed it, at least I was changing the right values...

You are correct on why the changes didn't stick.

Changes to the properties files must be made while SageTV is not running. If you do it while SageTV is running, the values are overwritten when shutting down SageTV to what they were when SageTV started.

I liked others suggestion to go with slightly less than the 30sec/10sec interval for skip fwd/rev. I am currently "getting used to" 28/8 - seems to match my "human commercial detector" just fine...

[No doubt such functionality is the bane of anti-FairUse/pro-DCMA lobby - let's all do our part to keep such features "legal"...]

I think your falling into the trap the lobbies you mention want you to think...

Just because they say something is illegal per their interpretation doesn't make it so. I fervently hope someday somewhere an organization that looks out for the consumer steps in with the muscle to match those lobbies and say enough is enough. My interpretation is they send it into my home, once it passes the door way it's up to me how I view it. I interpret that as fair use.

Just my opinion

Notice I said "keep such features legal", not "make..." :-)
