How do I set capture card preference?

Rite now I have a svideo encoder card and two tv tuner cards. I would like to make it so that the svideo card is the card that always records the channels first followed by the two analog cards.

Check out the mmc/encoders/<some number>/encoder_merit=<value> properties for each capture device, in Appendix A of the PDF manual. Higher <value> is higher priority.

I have tried to set different values for the encoder merit but every time I open and close the properties file it defaults back to 0

You have to comepletely exit SageTV before editing sage.properties. (And stop the service if using service mode.)

I have had some problems with this over the last couple of months.

I have 3 tuners
2 analog
1 digital

When I am recording a favorite and I try and watch TV sage will say that there is a recording conflict and asks if I would like to keep recording or watching what I want to watch. This is quite frustrating and have yet to figure it out.

That's a known side effect of setting tuner priorities -- live TV will walk through each tuner in priority order, asking what you want to do if each one is use, until it find an unused tuner, you override a recording, or it runs out of tuners to try.
