Idea for expanded usage
My job requires me to travel quite a bit. I'd like to be able to record a bunch of shows on my Sage server, then log in with the Sage client on my laptop and transfer some shows to my laptop with program info. Then, when I'm on the plane or in my hotel room, I'd fire up another copy of Sage server, which would read the program info and the local file path, and I could then watch whatever I had transfered, just as if I was at home on my Sage network system.
Is this possible right now, or is it feasible in the future? I'd be pretty interested in this kind of functionality. |

buy two copies of sagetv, when you want to copy shows for the road just copy them from computer to laptop. Set the directy structure up the same (Same path for video recording directory IE: C:\videos). Then shutdown Sagetv on computer and copy over the properties file and wiz.bin file. Startup SageTV on laptop and the info and file should be there.
I have not tried this but can't see why it wouldn't work...

That all sounds like a lot of work just to watch a specific show. I normally just copy the mpeg files over to my laptop before a trip (if I have that time luxery). Then watch them with WMP.
Otherwise - if your hotel has a big internet connection, you could use nielm's webserver to download the mpegs remotely. Or you could use orb.com to stream them in windows media format. OR you could use that automatic transcoding plugin and use nielm's webserver to download them then watch them. I think messing with two copies of Sage Server, copying win.biz, keeping file paths the same is way too much effort just to watch a specific show. Now if you wanted to record shows on the road, that's a whole nother story... |
