"smart recording"

Hello friends,

perhaps someone can help me to understand if I'm doing something wrong.
I use the smart recording feature.
it records many shows that i don't want to watch, (i use cayars skin), when i pressed delete didn't watch don't like it did no good, i got a tip to set to watched and then not liked and then delete.
did this as well, but sage insist on recording same shows i "told" him not to record.
can anyone please advise?

You only want to set them to Don't Like. You have to train it for a bit though. For example, setting one episode of Friends to Don't Like will not cause SageTV to stop recording it if you have lots of Watched comedy shows. Go through your upcoming recording schedule and tag as many shows as you can as Don't Like.

You can also look ahead in the scheduled recordings and set things to don't like before they get recorded. This will speed the learinging along. But it will always find stuff that you don't like to record.

Mine has been training for months and it's only now nearing the intelligence of the average pet poodle....

It's not TOO bad, but if I watch anything that is out of my normal viewing habits Sage then needs more training. "BAD SAGE!!! BAD!!! NO MORE SITCOMS!!!"

Anyone here using aggressive negative profiling to help reduce some of the don't like shows?

I tried it once, but because I had marked so many shows as Don't Like when that aggressive negative profiling (ANP) wasn't available, it thought I didn't like much of anything and added a grand total of 1 IR show to my schedule. I think the best way to use ANP is on a newer install w/o as much viewing history (or at least w/o so many Don't Likes).

Heya,

I’m doing exactly as mlbdude suggested and it works great this includes using Aggressive Negative Profiling! I've got almost a year run time on my PVR of viewing history. Sometimes it does go to town on new shows just because my daughter watching something new. It takes me about 2min to go through the recording schedule (thanks to the nielms’ web server WOOT!) and tag the alike shows that I am not interested in. Some will say this is more of a pain, or too much effort for the end results. I've found at first that was the case, but now the shows its grabbing on its own are far more toward my family’s interest than not. As the others have mentioned, it’s all about viewing history. Without it, Sage usually tags almost anything and everything, or nothing at all. I'd suggest turning it off till you have a good few months of viewing history built up. If you find a vast majority of the recordings are far from your interest, turn it off a month or few and try it again at a later date.
It's been an awesome feature at my house and we've found shows that we would have never given the time of day to becoming fast our favorites.

Enjoy,
RedR

IR has not been changed in v3. If any IR options are ever added, I'm sure they will get listed.

It just takes time... And needs a name change... "Relatively inconsistant and slightly retarded recording" just takes up too much room on the setup menu though.

if it really likes one channel, then it is likely that you left sage running viewing that channel, so it has a whole load of 'watched' shows on that channel...

Try using the viewing history feature of my webserver, or malore's guide screens to see what programs Sage thinks you have watched, and maybe reset the watched state...

I don't know about that... I have NEVER watched anything on SciFi or FX and it likes to record every movie off of those channels.

Please make it stop recording movies. That's what DVDs are for!

Recording movies... Ahhhhh yes. Movies are their own beast. So unless you don't want it to record ANY movies, you are gonna be screwed. Watch just one "My baby has downs and was eaten by dingos" movie-of-the-week and sage will think ALL movies are ok to record.

Personally, I like it recording movies, so it doesn't bother me. But if you don't want it to record them you'll have to tell sage that you hate ALL movies (in my experience) and it'll take some time to clear out those movies you HAVE watched too...
