Transferring a video to MPEG using Sage
Hi all,
I spent a frustrating evening last night transferring a VHS video (our wedding vid) to MPEG on the computer. I didn't want to fiddle around with any other software, not least because the TV is my monitor and I don't have a mouse or keyboar attached. SO I thought I'd try an do it in Sage; just set up the Composite input on my PVr-500 with no EPG data and record it. Except I couldn't find an easy way to do it; I could set it up as a channel and watch that channel in the guide, and hence record it, but at the end of the 16 minutes of the tape there was no way to tell Sage to save it uder a meaningful name and indeed the first time I did it Sage deleted the file the moment I stopped watching it! Had to fix up a keybad and mouse and then record it again, and go in and grab the file as quickly as possible and rename it. All of which felt like a hassle. Is there an easy way to do this? |

Schedule recordings;
Timed record... Starting now, ending (now+video duration+padding) Check that Sage is recording and Press Play on the VCR. Sleep until done. Then rename the (wierdly named) file after recording is over, and load into your MPEG editor to cut to taste. To see what the file is called, look at the detailed info for the recording (it will just be a bunch of numbers). Timed record is essential -- apart from Sage's Auto-delete of LiveTV, viewing TV on the VCR channel will auto-generate a new file when each 'No Data' program ends.

Ah... that's the one. Thanks very much, Nielm - must have looked straight through that option!
