Sage not loading & high CPU usage

Has anyone ever had an issue with sage where it loads up but then the sage application window just goes black. There also seems to be a high usage of CPU power when it is stuck in it's black window mode.
This problem is just on going however long I leave sage to load.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Rob

I believe this can happen with a large number of favorites / channels / high lookahead. If you have modified your lookahead, turn it back down. If you simply have a high number of favorites, I believe that it *should* eventually finish (may take a lot longer than you expect though).

Does that ring any bells?

There might be a corrupt recording in one of your video directories too. Look for recent incomplete/small recording files & try moving them to a non-SageTV directory to see what happens when you start SageTV.

I can understand what your saying about corrupt recording in one of my video directories. The only problem with that is it's a fresh install of sage.

I will browse around on my server though just to make sure there aren't any directories with files in that sage might be trying to access.

Thanks for the advice. I will keep you posted on how I get on.

Oh - also check for the ui/accelerated_rendering=false property to disable 3D Acceleration. If this is a new setup, maybe there is some issue with the 3D support w/the video card drivers or something. Just another guess with no guarantees!

I tried changing it to false but no such luck.
I found that when I try loading sage then check the properties, it changes it back to true.

I don't know how relevant this is, but I thought I should mention that the problem has only occurred ever since my PVR-500s blew up and had to be replaced for new ones.

Now the new cards have come through and put in place of the old ones I updated sage to Beta 3.0.7 using JRE 1.4.2.09. I’m using the older version of Java as I had read reports of the newest releases causes sage beta to crash.

Do you think the PVR cards could be causing an issue? I must add that I have tried loading sage once whilst waiting for the replacements cards to come through and that’s when I first noticed the black screen issue. So taking the cards out doesn't help.

If you are running in service mode, you'll have to edit the client properties file.

But, if you are trying to reconfigure to get around past problems, your best bet is most likely to make copies of all your properties files and then deleting all the existing properties files & their autobackups. That way, you can start with a fresh configuration.

Nah not using service mode. Sage is a fresh install and I even deleted the sage directory when i uninstalled to ensure no previous files were causing the issue.

I imagine it to be more of a server issue rather than sage. I have updated the graphics driver to the latest version but still no luck,

I would experience this exact symptom and for me, I narrowed it down to my STV. Somehow it would get corrupt so I would copy back a good copy of my STV and everything would be fine. Are you using the original stv or not?
