Music Library incomplete
SageTV 2.2.8 does not seem to be picking up all my MP3s. I mapped a drive to my server, directory structure for my music is as follows:
f:\artist\album_title\mp3s I added f:\ to the media import directory list chose refresh and let it sit for an hour (I have about 35G of MP3s). When I go into the Jukebox, there are missing albums/artists. Examples - 1)Sage picks up f:\audioslave\Out of Exile\*.mp3 but does not pick up f:\audioslave\audioslave - debut\*.mp3. 2) Sage does not pickup f:\music\801\live. Refresh does not help. Could this be a issue with the tags ? How does Sage identify a "valid" file - by extension or tag ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Sage won't see the files without the tags.

I normally use MP3TagStudio. Clunky interface, but works pretty well. There are tons of options out there though.

Update: not missing, weird characters in names
Well, I found the real problem. It's not that the songs are missing, Sage is putting a character (like a block) as the first character in song titles, album titles and artist names. If I page down past the Z's all the music I couldn't find is there but instead of Led Zeppelin IV it's a block-ed Zeppelin block-V. I cleared the library and retagged a dozen albums with Tag&Rename, thinking it was a tag issue. I added back my music directory and let it rescan - same problem. Some of the albums I retagged show correctly, others don't. Any ideas ? Kind of tough to search for Back in Black when it shows as BLOCKack in Back - Thanks !

I was able to fix the problem of the blocks by using Windows to retag files. In Windows, Right-click the file(s) and choose Properties. Click Summary, then Advanced. Then just delete the tags that have blocks in Sage (mine were usually album title which made mass changes easier), and re-enter the info from there. Click OK, refresh Sage and problem should be solved.

Update - Just tried something a little easier. You don't need to delete and re-enter the values to fix the box problem.
Select multiple music files in Windows, go to the Advanced Summary page, change one value (anything works, add a character then delete is fine) and click Apply. Refreshed in Sage and the boxes were gone. Much easier. |

I use The Godfather for all my tagging needs. The best one I've found so far.
Be sure to install the AMG script, then all your album/song info will come from AMG automatcially. |

I had a similar problem (blocks instead of valid characters) when I started retagging my MP3s using Tag & Rename.
I fixed it on my system by changing the settings in Tag & Rename. Somewhere there's a setting to use "unicode" characters and that seems to be what the issue is. Turning that option off and re-writing the tags fixed it, and now everything is fine, display wise. Hope it helps... Keith |
