How about user-defined markers?
I was looking at the SageTV version 3 manual, and I was really happy to see all the filtering options for recording lists. You can filetering for any combination of each property that a recording can have (favorite, manual recording, watched, like/don't like, etc.).
In addition to be able to mark a recording like/don't like and watched, it would be great if you could give each recoding user-defined markers. Each recording could be marked with a certain number of additional markers that would have no functional meaning in Sage, but would be meaningful to each individual user and could be filtered.
For example, if I had watched a show, I could mark it with a user-defined marker. A blue circle would show up in this show's recording information page. My wife could mark it red and then we all know she's watched the show. Let's say you have a favorite that records everyday, but you rarely have time to watch each airing of the favorite. You could mark an individual airing to indicate that you started watching it. You would know that's the one you had started watching and could delete the remaining episodes to free up space. You could use the markers in many other ways, such as indicating you want to make a DVD of a show, make a backup of a show, etc. There are lots of things these could be used for that would be different for each household.
Sage almost has the functunality now. It has the complex filtering. We just need a few user-defined markers that could be used with the filtering method that all ready exists.
