Vobs showing up as different file type

Hi, I have been ripping my dvd's on a networked computer. I didn't realize until recently that when I browse the structure--the file type is showing up as Nero Showtime Files....and Not Vobs. The ones I rip on my sage server machine show up as vobs. I am assuming it is because Nero showtime is forcing it to associate with that program. How do I go about changing the file type of these dvd's to .vobs. The ones I have ripped on my server play fine, but the ones on my networked drives won't play.

Another issue but similar. I can't play any of the DVD's that I have ripped...they won't play on my client machine (the ripped DVD's are on the server). Error--problem accessing file system. They play fine on server though. Just can't get them to play on the client.
Any help would be great
thanks
JUC

IIRC for a client to play back DVDs, it needs direct access to the DVD files using the path that the server sees them at in the video library...

This is easiest to do if the vid lib is a shared folder defined and accessed as a UNC path :
\\mediaserver\videos
this way both server and client see the same folder.

For the association you can try this ...

1 - "Right Click" the file you want to re-associate
2 - Select "Open With" (See Attachment)
3 - Select "Choose Program"
4 - In “Open With” Dialog select either a Recommended Program, Other Program or click the browse button to associate with an exe in your Program Files.
5 - Click the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" if you want this change to be permanent.
6 - Select "OK"

Another interesting thing I found out one when trying re-associating HTML files back to IE from the SBC Yahoo! Browser was the icon would not change back to IE. To fix this I had to do the following ...

1 - In any open folder window select the "Tools Menu"
2 - Select "Folder Options" (See Attachment)
3 - When the dialog opens Click the "File Types" tab
4 - Select the File Type you want to permanently assign an icon to
5 - Click the "Advanced" button (See Attachment)
6 - When the Edit File Type dialog opens click "Change Icon" (See Attachment)
7 - Browse to the exe that has the icon that you want to assign
8 - Click OK three times

BTW ... n the Folder Options / File Types Tab dialog you will also see a "Change" button above the "Advanced” that will also allow you to set the file association. The other way is just a quicker way to get there.

Hope that helps ... T.
