Animated Menus

I don't know if this has been suggested.
Would it be possible to have the background.png be an animation?
From what little I have researched, the animated *.png format is *.mng.
If Sagetv supported this file format, could this be a way to have some talented SageTV artists create animations in the background of our menus?
