Move to HDTV

All these acronyms make my head spin

I read this thread.

If I just get an HDTV, get HD from my cable co, get the new cable box, run the cable to the cable box>pc (with pvr250)>tv, will it still display HD on my tv, or will the pvr250 'knock it down'?

I dont need long detailed steps, just point me in a direction

The pvr250 will knock it down. It will still most likely look better than regular analog cable, though.

Are you aware that the sagetv 3.0 beta supports HD? But yes, you will need an HD card, the 250 will not get it done. You will also need some serious HDD space.......

You can't do digital cable (QAM) HDTV in the Windows version of SageTV. Not sure about the Linux version, although the driver support is there within the Linux DVB architecture.

Or to get away from the acronyms that the original poster mentioned...

Over the air or firewire from a set top box.
