Recording things that have been recorded before?

Howdy,

I know that Sage supports the ability to not record things that it has already recorded. But does it ony do this if I manually go inand mark the show as "Watched"? If I record a show, offload the file, and delete the file from my Sage computer... If the same episode comes on again will it record? Or do I need to go somewhere and delete the episode ID somehow so that Sage knows to record it again next time?

Main issue is that a show I record all the time is on once a week at a funky time and for some reason Sage records an hour before the show is on. Not sure if it's Sage's fault ot the Guide has bad info or what. But the same episodes wil be playing on a different channel soon and I want to make sure Sage record them again.

Thanks.

As long as it is NOT marked as watched and is a favorite, than it should record it again.

OK. That's what I thought but just wanted to make sure. I don't manually mark any shows as watched (and I assume Sage doesn't do it automatically) so I should be OK.

Thanks.

Sage will mark the show as WATCHED if you either Mark them as watched or watch enough of the show that Sage thinks you WATCHED it.
I use a custom STV that gives me my Veiwing History. So when I make a mistake and mark something as watched and find out it screwed it up, I can go into the history and Clear the WATCHED status, so it will record again. Or you could go through the GUIDE and see if it is setup to record, if not MANUALLY record it to make 100% sure.

In case this might add more info, there are a series of FAQs on this starting here, and the v3 manual covers some of the same stuff -- look towards the end of the section covering the "Recording Schedule" menu.

By the way, if you need to delete something because it was not what you wanted, use the 'Recording error' button (in 2.2's detailed info pane -- it is a delete option in v3) -- this makes sure that the recording is not set to watched, no matter how much of it you saw...

I don't ever watch anything through Sage itself. I download my MPEG2 and convert them to Divx and then watch that so as far as Sage is concerned, I've never watched anything.

I have the reserve problem.
I have favorites to record my series shows...I download and burn them to my dvd collection--but if the same episode comes on again...sagetv will record it again.
Is their a way in "batch" to tell sagetv "i've watched these..dont record again"

thanx
Pat

Mark as watched in Sage, or in the webserver...
You could do it semi-automatically by using the airing ID part of the filename in a URL such as:
http://mediaserver:8080/sage/AiringC...AiringId=xxxxx

I do the same thing, although I use AutoGK(Xvid). What I do to make it quick and painless is I mapped the Watched command in detailed setup to a button on my Hauppauge remote. Now before I load the mpegs into AutoGK I go to the TV recordings page highlight and press the watched button takes 5 seconds to set 10 shows to watched.

Can you set things to Watched by using the Web service? I can't seem to find any information on the web service but if you can, that'd be easy for me since I don't ever actually touch my Sage computer unless I have to resyn the clock or reboot it or something.

And how does the web service work? Is it a plug-in or something I just have to turn on?

web server

I think you just enable the server in the detailed setup
(I'm still running 2.2.8RC)

Does anyone have the docs that list ALL the web commands for the server?

(http://mediaserver:8080/sage/Airing....Id=xxxxx....et al???????)

The web server is one of nielm's creations, see this thread and the wiki entry.
