Sage client freezing up.

I have sagetv installed on machine with PVR 250 card, works perfectly. I enabled server portion and installed the sagetv client on another machine. Firewall is disabled on both machines, both running 9.0c directx, both with a gig ram/ 2gig cpu chips.

Problem is, the client is unusable on client machine. It locks up entire machine at ever expanding rates. First runs fine for ~5 seconds. Then locks up for a few seconds and runs for a couple seconds then locks up for over 10 seconds, runs for a second, locks up for 20 seconds, runs for half a second and keeps getting worse and worse until entire machine locks up completely in only a few minutes.

I've never gotten further than selecting a channel from the guide and can't get further because it locks up completely by that point.

Anyone have a clue?

I'm running the trial versions of the software, just downloaded them. Unless I can get the problem resolved before the trial runs out, I don't plan on buying the software.

You could check for an updated video card driver and/or reinstall SageTV (after uninstalling & completely deleting the current installation dir).

Maybe some other people will have more ideas if you give more details about the system, but you could always try SageTV's tech support too. (That's available during a trial.)

Like Opus4 said without more specific configuration details 'bout impossible to attempt to troubleshoot. When you say "locks up", from description sounds more like you mean slows or halts while waiting for data or something since then continues, if only briefly. Could be a network issue. Does it hang just negotiating the SageTV Client interface or only after selecting a channel to "watch"? Can you record something and then play it back on the SageTV Client machine? If not through the Sage Client software, can a recorded mpg file on the Sage Server be played back through another app on Client machine?

I'll ask AGAIN. Can you play back previously recorded files properly with another ap' on the Client box? Sounds like you update the video drivers on the Client and now it's working better than it was but still not good. I'm not familiar with that video card but it sounds lower end than the one in your Server. You need the video horsepower in the Client, not the Server, whatever machine(s) is doing the actual "watching". Are you outputting to TV or watching on computer monitor? If TV how output? Details man, need details. And data needs to flow freely from Server to Client, how are they networked?

Within SageTV Client have you tried both overlay and VMR9? What video decoder are you using? Have you tried different video decoder?
