Java problem with AwtToolkit

I realize this is a Java problem but it's related to the SageTV beta I just installed on a machine with a clean XP installation. The SageTV install uses (I believe) an older Java install and the AwtToolkit package is a part of it. When I go to shutdown my computer, it often fails to do so because it waits indefinitely for "theAwtToolkitWindow" to close.

I've been using google to find the cause/cure for this and I all I been able to really determine is that this is an old Java package that has been causing this problem for more than 5 years. I get the impression that upgrading the version of Java would fix it - but I've also read here that the newer Java installs create problems for SageTV. Has anyone else here experienced this problem?
