can't connect to Sage server in service mode

I can't connect to my SageTV server when using the service. It works fine without using the service. I've tried both versions 2.2.8 and 3.0.14 and I can connect with my client without any problem when not using the service. I've tried running the service as the local system and as a user. Neither works. It says that it can't find the server. Does service mode work with the client?

Yes, the client works with the service. Do you have a firewall? My first guess is that the service (a different exe) isn't being allowed through.

Yes, that was it!!!

Thanks! That was fast!

I just disabled the firewall on the server and it worked.

And I now I've re-enabled the firewall with appropriate ports opened as discussed in this post:

Thanks!

The ports are in this FAQ too... but I didn't feel like finding the link until I knew it was a firewall issue.
