HDTV via Cable?
So, I installed SageTV 4.0 and I am really happy with the changes that you made and the forward progress that you are making! Also, I like the fact that we are entering into the HDTV world!
While SageTV 4.0 supports the OTA HDTV cards I have access to HDTV over cable -- even if I go to OTA I am not sure I want to be in the business of buying an antenna or even moving it around to get channels in. So, this leaves me with trying to find out two things: 1) Are you planning on supporting HDTV over cable? 2) Is there a way to "hack" (un-supported) the OTA cards to take an input from the cable boxes? Thanks for the continued progress, Matterw |

Hi,
I believe the MyHd cards can use unencrypted QAM (the Unencrypted Cable HDTV). Salsbt is developing a plugin for this, which Im following with great interest (I live in a valley and no one around me has got OTA HDTV to work). Cheers Mark

Check out the DViCO FusionHDTV5 USB. Supports QAM 256, it's USB powered, and mighty portable. It's only $149 at digital connection! I think it also does regular analog channels.

You can also check out the Firewire plugin that's available in the Hardware Support section of this forum.

Thanks for the info... I poked around a little bit and it seems like the FireWire option is my best bet at this point... Now I am off to call Cablevision to exchange my SA4000HD for a model that has the FireWire ports...

I've been doing HD recordings via firewire for a few weeks now. Works pretty darn well for me, although I will admit there has been more than once that it did not record the correct channel...
I am channel changing via firewaire as well, I think some others have had less than perfect channel changing experiece. I would say for me so far the channel changing has been 85% or so. Anyway good luck. The guides really need updating in the firewire thread, because it is easier than they list... Feel free to ask how to do it the simplest way in the firewire thread after you get a box that supports it. Jason Last edited by JasonJoel; 11-07-2005 at 07:58 PM. |
