Renderer vs Decoder

See the attached graphic for what I am asking about.

I was wondering if someone can explain the differences between the Video Redender setting and the MPEG2 Video Decoder Filter.

And the same thing for the Audio settings: Audio Renderer vs Audio MPEG2 Deocder filter?

I dont understand what their main purpose is, and what they are used for in the product. Do they serve similar purposes or different purposes???

Thanks!

Decoder unpacks the (usually compressed) data, and renderer puts that data on the screen (or speakers)

Yeah, basically:

File -> Splitter/Demux -> Audio/Video Decoder -> Renderer
