Problems with 350 UI TV-OUT and Setup of V4
After removing the older version of SageTV, renaming the old Frey dir, deleting Jave RE, and installing the latest JAVA RE from java.com, I've fresh installed V4.
During initial set up when I enable UI on the TV OUT for the 350, the computer and SageTV freezes. If I don't enable UI on the TV OUT, everything seems to be ok, i.e., I get just the video coming out of TV OUT. My set up was running perfectly with Sage 3.xx(?) and UI enabled on the TV OUT for the 350 before the V4 fresh install, but now isn't working anymore. Any suggestions on enabling UI on the TV OUT for the 350 will be greatly appreciated! Computer: Presario Semapron 3000 Card: Hauppauge 350 Video Card: Nvidia GeForce (Mx400(?); S-Video out enabled and connected to TV) Single Tuner. Uninstall java and Sage. Install Sage and let it install the version of java that comes with Sage. Hope this helps.

The reinstall didn't work. I'm not sure if Sage comes with it's own Java...
Turns out that installation of the latest Nvidia driver freezes up SageTV v4 and v2.xxx when the UI or the overlay is selected for the 350's TV-OUT and I'm using the S-Video TV out on the Nvidia card. No problems if I just use the vga monitor output on the Nvidia card and not use the S-Video out. So I just deleted the installed Nvidia driver and seems to work ok, although I'm not sure if this is an ideal solution. I'm assuming that the pc is using some kind of generic driver for the Nvidia card, which still outputs the computer screen via the S-Video out. I'll have to try an older Nvidia driver (b/c it worked before with the older driver) to see if it works. |

I also removed V4 and the JRE. SageTV does install it's own JRE1.4.2.
I now have the following situation. If I enable TV-Out on the PVR350, all is ok, no problem with TV playback. However, if I enable the UI on the 350. The UI does not freeze, but it does not draw correctly, seems to wrap around on the display, also changing from one menu to the next does not redraw the whole UI, you only see buttons as they gain focus. This looks like some problem writing to the 350's framebuffer device..? The UI and the TV playback together eventually hangs the PVR350. Relevant info: The services weren't running Problem persists after a cold restart I'm in PAL land I really like this software, is there anybody else in a PAL regiuon who has V4 running on a PVR350? |

Make sure you have Sage set for PAL and try turning off 3D in the settings. That may help. I don't have a PVR350.

Although my problem is a bit different in that the computer freezes when I select UI/OSD via TV-OUT, I have found that the problem goes away when I installed an older Nvidia driver v. 78.10. Something to be said for saving older drivers in my documents......
And the playback image is much much better..... FYI, I'm using the TV-OUT on the 350 for Sage TV and at the same time, the S-Video out on the Nvidia GeForce card to display the computer screen image. Last edited by Pegleg; 11-16-2005 at 07:56 PM. |
