Java Update ??

OK ... I have completed my clean install of SageTV 4 ... Enabled the Unsupported Extras and tweaked a few settings ...

I have noticed the Full Screen Toggle icon at the top right ... When I toggled from full screen I got a pop up from my system tray that Java wanted to be updated to version 1.5.0_05-b05 from the Sage install version 1.4.2_06 ...

Do I update or leave well enough alone?

Thanks, T.

I just went over this tonight - take a look here before updating and see if it fits you.

You can update, I work with the latest version of Java but don't forget to copy the ext directory to the new one. Else, some things won't work...

Regards

A lot of people have reported issues with the later Java, so I'd strongly recommend leaving well enough alone (although uninstalling Java and SageTV and then reinstalling SageTV isn't that tough if you do update and then have issues).

Thanks All ... I decided to blow off the update ...

Hmmm .... In fact now that I think of it I was getting Java lock-ups every day or two with the 2.2.8 server I was just building before deciding to go to 4.0. I thought it had to do with the fact that I was setting the schedule look ahead to 14 days. I set it to 7 and still got the lock ups. Thinking about it, I remember letting Java update ... I'll bet that was my problem all along!!!

Now I am glad I asked ...
