Question question about quality settings and PVR500

This may be a stupid question, but I don't understand the correct settings
to use in sage for my PVR500. The 500 has hardware encoders and so it should use a little over 2 gigs per hour for tv. The problem is I can change the quality settings in sage to get a different file size. Is there a way to determine if I am using the hardware encoders or software and or is sage able to change the quality of the recordings from the hardware encoders.

You're always using the encoders on the 500, the settings in Sage just change how much the hardware encoders compress the video. Same is true of all the hardware encoder cards.

That helps, I now understand how the settings work.
