Sage Icon spinning forever - UI locked until killed or server stopped

Any assistance appreciated on this one. Running 4.0 on a fully patched stand-alone PVR. System has been running flawlessly until this week when the UI started hanging with a spinning sage icon.

It happens during playback and I hit some remote function (stop, pause, menu, etc..) sometimes right away, othertimes I can send 5 or six clicks before lockup. Interestingly, the app does not crash - the playback continues with the spinning logo but stops responding to any input.

Debugging notes:
  • Service runs fine even when UI locks. Recordings contine to be captured
  • Stopping the service returns control to the UI
  • Have reverted to base STV and stock options - no change
  • Have updated NVidia Drivers and codec - no change
  • Overlay/VMR9 - no change
  • 3d/no 3d - no change

Help greatly appreciated

System: Sage 4.0, AMD 2600+, 512Mb, PVR350, PVR250, nVidia 6200.

Anybody?

This is killing Sage's usability. I've filed a bug, but have not yet had a response. Any ideas for further debugging?

The same installation of SageTV was working until just recently? I would look at whatever might have changed on your system just before this started (software updates), some hardware going bad, or a bad recording sitting in some recording dir (any small or zero length files?).

You can turn on debug logging for release versions of SageTV via the debug_logging=TRUE property (note the all capital letters for TRUE). I recommend this be turned on ONLY when there is a problem to be solved. Maybe the log file will indicate something other than what I mentioned above.

Have you tried defragging the HD lately? My UI was in la-la land most of the time until I installed diskkeeper and defrag my 300 GB video drive every day.

same thing for me

I had this problem too... I did two things and it seemed to go away.
#1 was I reverted back to the shipping version of java, rather then the web update of java (1.46 vs 1.5)

#2 was I killed the "google desktop" task. goole desktop is a news agent and indexer for your local PC. I think it uses java... and I think that havin gthe google desktop and sage UI open at the same time caused the problem... maybe because they both have to share the JVM??? i dont really know.
