Sage v4: CC and v3 Favorites/Settings
I'm moving from my old HTPC to a new one. The old one was running Sage v3. The new one is running Sage v4. It's a brand new install, so everything is fresh. I followed the FAQs but I'm still having trouble:
1) I copied Sage.properties and wiz.bin to the new directory (c:\program files\sagetv) -- no dice. My favorites are gone, and my existing saved recordings are not showing up. The computer name is the same; the directory structure is the same. What am I doing wrong? 2) Is Closed Captioning still not built into v4? Since I moved the Sage.properties file, which has the cc option enabled, shouldn't it kick in? Or do I still have to install those other overlay executables to make this work? |

Thanks, Opus. That was it exactly -- so stupid of me. I noticed that Frey Technologies is no longer the working directory, and saw that it generated it when I put the old properties file in there. So I just copied the wiz.bin file and now all my favorites and my old shows are there.
I'm still having trouble with CC. I've tried the Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder and ffdshow, but I still don't get the CC option when I right-click during playback. I'm using Overlay for Video Renderer and have tried other options but no luck. The same property that used to exist in v3 doesn't exist anymore (something like cc_enable)... |

I don't use CC, so the only thing I used to know about it is what is in Appendix K in the SageTV manual -- p. 244 for v4.

Closed Captioning on Sage v4
I don't know what else to do...I've tried everything!
1) Added the cc true command to Sage.properties, making sure I did it while both the client and the service were stopped. 2) Tried default, overlay, VMR9. 3) Tried Sage MPEG, Cyberlink MPEG, Intervideo MPEG, ffdshow MPEG. In none of these combinations can I get the CC option to come on when I right-click over Live TV or a recorded show. Can some kind soul please post what settings he/she is using to get CC to work in Sage v4? FYI, I had it working just fine in v3. I'm running WinXP + WinTV-PVR250MCE. Thanks, jgsouthard. Can anyone confirm they have closed-captioning working on v4? Anyone? Bueller? If there's no solution to this, I'll have to revert back to v3, which I really don't want to do...

I was told that what was written in the manual should still work in v4. See if this registry change makes any difference:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\\Frey Technologies\\SageTV\\DirectX9\YUVMixing=0 - Andy

No difference -- still no good. What I'm going to try is to use the old sage.properties file from v3, but with the directories updated so it uses the same wiz.bin file. I'll post how that turns out...

ditto on the non-working CC in V.4
I've followed the appendix instructions, too, and it's still a no-go for CC support in v.4. I'm using "default" decoders - NVIDIA and I've done the whole registry thing where you change the fourth number from whatever it is to something like "01" or "00" for the recording quality setting you're using. Nope - doens't work.

And my foray into using a doctored v3 sage.properties didn't work, either.
Anybody, anybody at all, have CC working on v4? |

I'm still running v3 but has anybody verified that the recorded shows have the captions recorded? Has anyone run mpg2srt on a recording, just to check?
Upgrading may have changed your recording profile and it has to be a DVD type stream. If it isn't then the captions won't be there to display. Just an idea. Jere

I followed the instructions on page 244 of the v4 manual to a T, so I'm using DVD quality recording. Doesn't seem to make a damn bit of difference.

So do we. If the solution to this problem is waiting for the next update, then I'll have to revert back to v3.

One thing strange, I just bought and installed ShowAnalyzer. Now when I playback a recording, I DO get the "Closed Captioning: Disabled/Enabled" when I hit my "yellow" button on my remote and the pop-up menu appears. But when I try to enable CC, an on-screen message says something like "invalid closed caption" or something like that. So?

It's a New Years miracle! Since the upgrade to 4 (from 2.2.8) my CC was gone.
Last night I was fooling around with some of the video settings and WOOT ! Switching the video from Overlay to VMR9 brought my Closed Captions back Now I just have to tweak the picture to make it look as good as my overlay was. |
