Identifying Nvidia Decoders
I recently downloaded and installed the trial version of the Nvidia Decoders to use with my ATI AIW and Sage. It definitely improved things over those provided with the AIW.
So, I decide to purchase them. The Nvidia site has three flavors of the decoders; Bronze $19.99, Gold $29.99 and Platinum $49.99 . I decided to go with the Gold believing I got the most bang for my buck. Problem is the download is the same file I used for the trial. They are all the same version, but, how can tell if I reaqlly have the Gold release?? I'm stumped?? Thanks, T. |

The different registrations probably just unlock different features.

All gold gets you is DD decoding, but that only works in WMP/MCE anyway.

Hmmm .... Acording to their link you also get ProLogic II ... But, I really wanted 5.1 ... are you saying Sage can't handle 5.1 with the Gold Decoders?

I'm saying nVidia's decoders (because of Dolby Licensing restrictions) won't decode outside WMP or MCE.

mightyt, if the only thing you need is to passthrough the 5.1 AC3 or DTS signals(via an SPDIF link) to your external AV Receiver, then even the basic can do it.
The internal nvidia feature is for decoding the audio in the PC and pushing the analog discrete 5.1 audio to the 6 analog audio outputs of your sound card which can then be sent to speakers though amplifiers.
