ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Yes, it did not record the finale!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am beside myself. After watching all of the damned episodes it does not record the finale!!

How can we prevent this in the future??? How can we force the EPG to update daily??? Hourly????

The WAF just went from the high 90s to about 4 and she was about to let me add more tuners and clients!!!!!

Well, i just had to buy the whole season DVD off someone from ebay for $25 just to get the blasted finale.

From now on i'm making any series i want to record "first runs and re-runs". I'll just have to buy another 400gb drive to hold all of the trash that will accumulate from recording previous years of the series (think west wing).

Open to other ideas ...... any one......... any one......... buler??

There is a FAQ talking about how to get the EPG to update at a particular time every day. A lot of people like to have it update late at night, but for something like this it would be better to have it update a couple hours or so before prime time.

In terms of favorites, you could set up a fav for reruns that only keeps X number of shows & lets SageTV auto delete the recordings. Depending on how often reruns are aired, you might be able to just have it keep the last 2 or 3 shows & that would catch the latest ones. If you find that a new show was listed in the guide incorectly as a rerun, you could tag that recording as a Manual Recording after the fact so that the rerun fav can't delete it before you watch it.

In addition to setting favorites to record 1st run/reruns, you can also limit the channels sage looks at for that particular show title... many of the past years episodes of shows air on other stations.

Plus you never know when you might have missed a great episode from the past that sage might catch. Otherwise to "weed" out all episodes that you know you have watched, go to additional airings page once a week and set those "weeds" to watched status and sage won't ever record them.

Also, I always make sure to check once a week to make sure SageTV has the proper items set up to record and tweak those shows it missed into its schedule... because you NEVER know what could happen. It sounds daunting to do this weekly, but I record every new series and going through all of them takes about 10 minutes to make sure things will record properly.

OK guys thanks, she took a break from yelling at me for a few minutes.

So if i understand what you guys are saying:
1. I can force an EPG update once at say 6pm and from there on out it will do the update at 6pm unless at some point i force an updated at some other time. ??
2. How do i crop the channels that will be utilized for a particular show? I thought that we could only turn a channel on or off for each tuner...
3. I can just let it record everything and 'mark watched' the old ones so that over time i'll get fewer and fewer reruns
4. Sage has always worked so well over the past year or two i've never had to do a pre-emptive checkup on what it's going/not going to record. but that sounds like a good routine to get into *IF* the EPG data is going to be accurate at the beginning of the week when i would do the checkup.

The next trick is going to be avoiding seeing who won on websites or on the news from now until that DVD shows up!

Yes, but it might drift a bit over time.

You can limit the channel for a fav -- see the Favorite Details screen.

Yes, or you can mark them as Watched in the schedule.

Like Opus said, whenever you're in the "guide" , looking at additional airings, or looking at upcoming recordings, highlight the show/episode that you know you have already seen and type CTRL W on your keyboard to set that episode to a "watched" status.

PS. make sure you set the right episodes to watched status and not the ones you want sage to record

One more: when viewing Additional Airings, highlight the Past Airings entry in the list & use the Watched command for an option to set or clear Watched for all past airings.

+1 on setting Sage to record "first runs and re-runs" and then manually setting the watched status on the old stuff. It may take a while to get Sage caught up on what you have watched, but once you do, it'll be worth it.

I got burned once with the EPG thinking a first-run ER was as a rerun. Once I realized what was up, I set Sage up to record everything and manually set watched. Doing that has saved me a couple times from missing a show. Every once in a while the EPG will be messed up and I'll see a new show in my schedule without the "blue dot" when it should have one. Check the show-info and it'll show the correct airring date, but be marked as a rerun.

OK, Thank you (all). I'll start tracking, marking, and ctrl-w (ing).

I think i've just been spoiled since Sage has worked so perfectly for so long that i've never had to even worry about it.

And for future readers of this thread, THIS IS NOT SAGE's fault! It is the EPG service that had the error.
