Thanks for the menu fades

Just a quick thanks to the SageTV team for adding the menu fade!

I really like the effect and it works on the SageMC STV too.

I'm really pleased that elements like this are being thought about, as I think these things make the feel of the program much more 'expensive'.

Cheers guys/gals

Can I just install 4.1 over 4.0 if I'm using the SageMC16_9.stv?

I just installed straight over. All I had to do was tell sage to use the SageMC .STV and that was it.

Is there a way to speed up the menu fades? I'd like mine a tad bit faster

Modify this property:

ui/menu_fade_time=1000

That was added after the option to turn the fades on/off in Detailed Setup -> Customize was added, so there was no chance to add the fade time to the UI.

Hi all,

I just upgraded to 4.1.3.67 in anticipation of my Media Extender arriving early this week and noticed the fading menus. I guess I'm so used to the old way (without the fade) so I wanted to turn fade off. I saw Opus's mention of going into Detailed Setup -> Customize to turn this on/off but I can't seem to find the option.

Was this option in the version of the SW I'm running or do I need to run a newer beta version (or am I just blind)?

Don't know if it makes a diff or not but after I upgraded from 4.1 to 4.1.3 I changed my STV back to the one I was using for 4.0. Could that have removed some things in the detailed setup menus?

Thanks!

-Gary

Followup

Hi again,

I just referenced the 4.1 PDF manual and it shows two settings in Detailed Settings -> Customize that I don't have. My list ends with:

Use expanded options for the Record command

Yet the manual shows two additional options:

Alternate Move category name
Menu transitions using fading effect when 3D acceleration is enabled

Even when I go back to the default SageTV3.stv I don't have those additional menus.

-Gary

UPDATE:

I figured I'd just modify my sage.properties to update the ui/menu_fade_time and set it to 0 (presumably to disable the fade) but my sage.properties file didn't have this entry. I manually added it, started the sage service and gui, but the fade remains.

It's not a big deal, but my setup seems different than it's supposed to be so I'd like to know why. Thanks again!

Yes. If you must use your older STV for some reason the property you were trying to edit would be found in the SageClient.properties
The default STV is called SageTV3.xml not SageTV3.stv to change back to it you probably need to edit the SageClient.properties since you are using an old STV from before .xml files were listed in the STV selection screen. You could also switch to it by opening Studio (ctrl-shift-f12) and doing a file - open and select SageTV3.xml then closing studio.

If you're using an STV that dates from before that feature was added, then no, you won't see that option in your Setup screen. The menu contents are completely specified by the STV, so to see current options, you need a current STV.

SageTV3.stv is the default STV for version 3. The default for version 4.x is called SageTV3.xml.

If you're running Sage as a service, then your UI properties are in SageClient.properties.

As another alternative to editing the properties files, you can press Ctrl+Shift+F12 to open Studio, choose Tools > Expression Evaluator from the menu, type:

SetProperty("ui/menu_fade_time", 0)

and hit Return. This will make the change in the appropriate properties file without having to shut down or restart anything.

Thanks, guys, for the help. I modified SageClient.properties to again use SageTV3.xml . That showed me the missing properties. I had to re-add a couple of stvi's I was using, but that wasn't a big deal.

Everything's working great now! Now I can't wait for my extender to arrive and get that thing fired up!

Thanks again!

-Gary
