Performance problems with server / MVP

I have an old dual-CPU PII/450 machine as my main Sage server. It has always done pretty well serving to two client machines and an MVP (using Matt's plugin). Yesterday I upgraded from 4.0 to 4.1 and switched my MVP over to the server. Everything 'works' but the MVP performance is really bad - much worse than using Matt's plugin. The MVP stops/stutters constantly. I've not seen this on the client machines.

I'm running on Win2k3 w/512MB memory. HDDs are 3x250GB Maxtors, with a 10GB drive for the OS. 1000MB swap space. Performance set for background (I'm running Sage as a service and only SA in the foreground so this seems right) and throughput is set for network applications in the NIC settings.

Any ideas from anyone (apart from upgrade which isn't an option right now)?

Andy.

same here. but i have a cpu load of 10-20% with sage 4.1Žand 60-80% with 4.0 and matts mvp.

with 4.1 i have a black screen when i watch a show (DVD-Stand.) and stuttering audio. the menus workes well.

i go back to 4.0 with matts mvp.

Have you tested shows encoded at a lesser quality? I was having a very hard time with some recorded at dvd-standard... but some recorded at 'good' seemed to work pretty well..

I am told that the MVP should work just fine at DVD-Standard, so what we are seeing doesn't seem to be an issue with the MVP.. maybe our network?? I know it worked fine with Matt's plugin, so I'm a little confused by it.. I'm going to try using a different switch and see if I can get better results.

Hey, you might try this fix listed here for an MVP issue. Not the same issue you have but it is related to the MVP and streaming of video.

It might not help. The issue we had was with the nVidia nForce NIC. But several NIC drivers do have this option or one similar. It probably won't help with CPU performance since it actually requires more CPU for network traffic. I just thought it might help with MVP performance. Not all NIC cards will have the setting available to change in the GUI without going into the registry or something.

v4.1.3 did not have PAL support for the MVP; try the v4.1.4 beta if you have a PAL version of the MVP.

okay thnaks for the pal update. i have a pic and a sound. but all my shows (Standard DVD Quality) are stutter in 2-3 sec tact. i dont can watch my shows on my mvps.

all mvps are connection over 54g wireless. no problem with matts mvp-client.

i have send a bug report.

why is there no version without mvp-support and correct tvtv support?
