STV: MyTVX - Alpha .2

Would like a little help in testing out a new concept. I need to get an idea of how well this performs on different systems with SD and HD content.

This STV is designed for VMR9 with 3D Acceleration. Don't think it will look or work well without it.

Try the Options command on most menu's.

Sage's internal menu fade effects should be disabled before trying this. This STV uses its own animations (lots of them) and will not work/look right with the fade.

menu_xtn_fade=false Will disable the fade.

I have it installed in my SageTV/STVs folder but I think it will work in any folder as well. This requires SageTV 4.1 or higher. The STV is an XML file.

Update:
I have had some time and continued this project. You can try it out here:
http://forums.sage.tv/forums/downloa...?do=file&id=65 if you want to see how it is coming along.

NOTE: This STV now must be extracted to your SageTV\STVs folder.

Still pre-beta shape. Most TV funtionality is there though.

EDIT: This is very customizable. Here are a listing of the current properties:

Very cool, I see definite possibilities (YGPM).

Couple comments (most of which you're probably getting to ):
  • Don't really like the oscellating selection thingy. Makes me seasick
  • Need a way to turn off the video background, I've never like that
  • When you're watching a video Options gets you the little popup, and can get you into detailed info, but pressing options while in detailed info, and while watching something, results in the options dissapearing but the info remaining (seems like the whole menu should go away).
  • No way to change back to the previous STV
  • Can't get to my DVDs

Seems not too bad on my desktop, (A64 X2 4200, Geforce 6600GT), I'll try it on my HTPC tonight (P4 2.4, Geforce 6800).

This one will probably always be video background. At least there won't be a preview window. I could put in the option to just show the background instead like the default STV main menu.

I just want to turn it off, I don't ever use the video background or the preview window. I'd just assume not "miss" anything I'm watching while moving around menues.

I mean, I think it's cool Sage can do video background, I just don't like it

-edit

Did I mention I like it

MLB

As always I think you are on to something. Very slick! Like you stated the initial "options" there is a little stuttering, but after that its good. I'm running it at 720P and it looks good.

Like Stang'r the initial main menu is a little disorienting (sp?) with some animation sliding left to right it might help, or make it worse??

I'm running a 3.2E, with a 9800Pro.. and it looks very very very promising.

I would consider changing from MC to this.

You might not be looking for design thoughts at this point... but thought I would throw this in anyway.

Looking at the Recordings (sorted by show-basically a 2 pane view) having the currently selected show at the top bugged me a little. Maybe you could consider having the currently selected show in the middle of the 2nd pane, that way you can see what you have scrolled past and a few in front. Gives you the did I go to far feel without seeing anything above it.

The Guide view is very intresting. Seeing a listing per channel would take some getting use too, but I think its a very good design. Channel Favorites is a great feature with that setup!!

CAn you throw up some screenshots? I wanna see what I'm missing!

edit: finally got around to trying it. Pretty slick! Had occasional jerky moments on my system (listed in sig) while playing TV from my analog card.

Performance seems fine on my system (amd x64 dual-core 3800+, running at 720p resolution). The options menu seems quite zippy. There is a brief flicker in the center of the screen when you press the button to show the options menu (it looks like it draws the options menu in the center of the screen for about 5 frames) but it looks quite good.

Aesthetically, I think it would be nice if there was some animation on the main menu when you scroll left and right through the main menu. As it is now it seems kind of "jumpy" and was not given the WAF stamp of approval.

The now playing screen looked good and no performance issues were evident.

Problem with screen-caps is none of the animations come through. There is so much animated content it would not do it justice.

Just had a very brief look (in between working).
I'm liking the look of this VERY much.

You can see my spec in the sig. I have a little stutter when introducing the first anim, but thats about it. from there on in all is smooth.

As others have said, The main menu slide needs a slide animation of some kind to make it look nice. I also think that the pulsating icons would become annoying after time. Maybe some sort of under-layed ( or very transparent) movement in the background would look good.

Generally though - a thumbs up!

Nice work dude

P.S. Just out of curiosity, is it the fact that it is an .xml STV that allows for all the anim?

Looking really good.

I think the pulse icons may get a bit much over time. Not sure it may work ou just fine. Are planning to add the time bar when watching video or am I missing something

Slight delay in the first animations but after that looks great

Very nice, kind or takes Sage to the next level. I never really realized that this was possible with the xml stvs now.

This has me thinking, would this make it possible to say port an xbmc skin over eventually? Just thinking out loud. Anyhow, this is awesome!

And this is a surprise that it seems fine - Damn with those specs, Im stunned you've not come up with a GUT - And the flicker is probably down to your system calculating PI to a trillion decimal places every second or so.

No offence meant

Cheers

Works good @720p. with a A64 3700+ 7800GT. Any amount of ffdshow causes stuttering with the animations

The pulsating icons are nice. I would only get them to pulsate a few times.
