Opus, I really didn't need to know there was a beta release!

Now I'm going to be tempted to try it when everything is seemingly working pretty well! Ignorance IS bliss!

I would try the new beta & if you have the same problem, submit the bug report w/logs from that one. (There may have been no changes in that area, but the bug reports will get tracked better than forum posts.)

Thumbs down Worse than 4.0

I have quite a few issues with 4.1:

1. Stopped EXETuner working in Service Mode
2. 3 sec delays on switching to and from program guide
3. OSD fading causes playback stuttering
4. Remote now tends to make two actions for one press about 50% of the time (I use MCE Remote + HIP)

I like the look of the new menus but all in all quite a step back useability wise in my opinion.

My specs are pretty decent: AMD 64 3200, nVidia 6600... ...so I'm surprised at the stuttering with the OSD.

I've gone back to 4.0 which has no stuttering and is very snappy in response to the program guide request.

I have an XP 3000 and a 6600GT and have no stuttering at all and no delay in the menus.

You can turn off the menu fading.

You can also adjust the remote settings via the properties file. I had to do this when I first installed Sage to keep it from recieving multiple commands from my MCE remote. No clue if it would help your problem or not though.

I did turn the fading off and it helped a little but still a huge delay on guide switching. Bottom line is it's not much cop if I can't change channel.

My channel changes are as quick as ever and the program guide comes up just as quickly as before. Obviously you have a problem somewhere.

No issues here -- except CC still doesn't work. I'm still looking for somebody to be successfully running closed captioning in Sage 4.x -- anyone?

That reminds me... someone in the SageTV office was able to get CC working in v4, but I was not. It could be because they are using a much older driver for their 250 & I am using a newer one... so something may have changed in the driver that breaks SageTV's use of CC.

Opus, you are the man! I can't thank you enough for this bit of info. Now I'm proud to say that CC is working on v4! I rolled the driver back to the one I was using with v3: MCE 1.17.390.22029. And voila, the captions are back!

I'm confused by this comment on two counts:
  • I haven't updated my Hauppauge PVR250 drivers in quite some time, since well before I started using v3 beta and/or v4 SageTV, but CC quit working anyway during one of those upgrades. I'm still using the same Hauppauge drivers that did work before.
  • I'm confused by the "MCE" number above, since that doesn't match any Hauppauge version sequence that I've seen. I'm currently using Hauppauge PVR-250 drivers version 2.2 build 23070, and I have been since sometime in June.
Any other info that might help me take this hint a step or two further?

You know, I'm not sure how I came across the MCE version, but I remember going through many google searches. In any case, the exact version is here:

http://www.shspvr.com/mce.html

or, more specifically

ftp://ftp.shspvr.com/download/media_...22029_whql.zip

It is labeled as "Ver 1.17.390.22029 WHQL All card 250/350/Freestyle board 2/2/2004".

Do you have an MCE board? That's what mine is...a PVR-250MCE. Not sure how it would behave with a non-MCE board, but I guess it's worth a shot. You can always roll back to the previous driver...

As usual, YMMV. If CC quit for you without any updates to the Hauppauge drivers, your issue might be different from mine.

When I first upgraded to 4.0 I was excited because it touted HD support. I have been recording HD over firewire in version 2.x. When I upgraded to 4.0, non of my recorded shows played back with sound. I cried for a week or so until I read the forums and found updated instructions for recording HD over firewire (my implementation was about a year old). When I changed my graph file to save in TS format, all new recordings had sound, but I was still stuck with a whole lot of recordings with no sound. But when I upgraded to 4.1, everything magically worked flawlessly. Old recordings and new ones all play fine error free. I'm happy as a clam.

My CC came back when I switched my Video Renderer from Overlay to VMR9.
