What's Your Overall Impression of 4.1 over 4.0?

4.1 has been out a while, and there've been threads where people have had issues. But I'm wondering what people think overall.

For me, 4.1 seems to have dealt with the FF/REW corrupted file issue, where it won't FF/REW some files properly. But it may be too early to determine that.

Also, it seems to have fixed virtually all the stuttering problems I've had. (Edit: The exception is sometimes watching live, but I'm okay if I back off live a few seconds).

I did try FSE, and that seems to be a step backward on my machine. I received an error message starting a video like I did with some of the beta versions.

Overall, I'm very happy with it. How do others feel?

I still have some studdering issues at times but it did fix my HD audio issues which were my major issues. Things are working well enough that, since I watch only OTA HD progamming most of the time, I am seriously considering cutting the cable and paying nothing for TV and PVR service. What a deal!!!

I voted Same. I had one issue that made it worse (now fixed), and one new feature that didnt' work.

I found an import bug, http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14715 and had to roll back to 4.0, but Sage fixed me up so I was able to reinstall 4.1

And the second item being trying to get the MVP working. A couple of us have been pounding away at it, http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14782 but since I didn't have MVP support in 4.0, I can't say its worse in 4.1

I'm still having the FF/RW problems with 4.1 that I had with 4.0. Other than that, the features that I use are the same.

Installed last night and all is well. I do like the the fading menu transitions, but I do not see any change in my music library:

"5. Various bug fixes for ID3, music file importing "

I still have albums with no cover art.

I voted that it's about the same because the only gripe I have is no support for using serial connections with direct tv boxes which use both the new command and old command set. This has caused me to run another sage server only as a network encoder and split the boxes between the two servers. Problem now is that I can't get the network encoder to work, worked with 4.0 but no luck in 4.1 using the old way or new way.

If you are doing anything with the dct6200 you will love 4.1.3.67 when you change channels!

Have you tried the Network Encoder discovery stuff yet?

I voted that it's a bit better than 4.0 - the 4.1 MVP integration is much better for me than using Matt's client with 4.0

1. smooth FF/RW is cool (can't do that in 4.0)
2. Menus are faster and remote is more resonsive - I have menu fade turned off as I found it annoying however.
3. Volume indicator shows properly now.
4. I no longer have the problem where live tv "catches up" and it stutters during playback every few minutes - I've watched several hours of live TV on all three MVPs and have yet to see this problem.
5. The overall system resources on my server are reduced since I'm not running three client instances on there.

Yeah, it'd be nice if they added DivX support and such, but over all I'm pleased with the new MVP functionality - I had no trouble whatsoever installing all three of my clients on the new version. About as trouble free an upgrade as I've had. I have faith they'll put something out that'll let folks burn CPU on their server to get Divx video via the MVP here at some point...

Seems to have a problem with the Germsage plug in. I just reverted back to 4.0 and it does not seem to have a problem.

Sounds like the STV needs updating. Not necessarily anything wrong with Sage.

How so? what's so different? (I'm still using a beta version of 2.2.x, because I don't feel like messing with the setup right now...)

Some of the changes are listed in chapter 8 of the PDF manual, some are listed in the v4.1 announcement, and some MVP info is in the MVP Media Extender info.

Plus, there are changes in the v4.1.4 beta release.

BTW: smooth ff/rew is only part of the MVP & sometimes when playing a DVD in SageTV on a PC, depending on your DVD decoder.
