USB-UIRT not learning Philips DirecTV codes

Hello all, first let me give you the vital stats:

Windows XP Pro SP2
SageTV 4.0 Trial (not running as a service, running as local user)
Plextor PX-M402U
Hauppage WinTV PVR-150 (not in use)
USB-UIRT (Driver 1.5.5.0)
Hauppage 45 button remote
Philips DirecTV DSX-5500 STB
P4 2.4ghz w/HT
1.5gb ram
120gb system disk
250gb program data disk

Here is the problem I am having:

I have not yet been able to complete setup. Every time I go through the setup process I get to the point where I "Add New Source". I select the "Plextor ConvertX M402U A/V Capure". I select "S-Video", the preview works fine. I select "Use external Cable or Satellite receiver to tune channel". I select "USB-UIRT Transceiver". I select "Add New Device". I enter "Philips" and select continue. I receive the message "There was an error learning the remote control code. Please release the button on the remote control.". I "Press Select (Enter) to continue and try to re-learn the code." a number of times. I eventuall receive the message "Please point the remote control from the Philiops at the window on the front of the USB-UIRT Transceiver. Press and hold the 0 button down on the remote control until told to release it." I press and hold the 0 button down until the cows come home, but I never receive the message to release and procede to the next button as stated in the manual.

I used SageTV about a year ago with my Hauppage card and really liked it and would love to get this working. However, my evaluation period is already half over and I'm getting frustrated. I would be very grateful for any help.

Thanks!

How close are you holding the remote? In learning mode I think you must hold it an inch or two away from the usb-uirt. If that's not it I have no idea.

I'm holding the remote no more than two inches away from the receiver which blinks the entire time I am pressing the button. Additionally, even when I'm pointing the remote in the opposite direction of the STB the STB still flashes indicating it is receiving the signal also. I too am at a loss.

I'm not certain what to suggest either, but I'm curious if SageTV is able to use the USB-UIRT to learn from that remote for one of the commands in Detailed Setup -> Commands -> Link...Command. (You can always unlink the button from the command.) Also, maybe ther is a test program for the USB-UIRT that could show whether it is receiving the remote's codes properly.
