4.1 MediaMVP extender slow performance

I have upgraded to 4.1 including the Media Extender option. I have a fully switched 100MB hardwired network and am having problems related to GUI and remote control performance. I am running SageTV server on a Windows XP SP2 machine with a single Avermedia 1500MCE, AMD Sempron 2800+, 512 MB SDram.

I could not get the client to work at all until I opened TCP 31097-31000 and UDP 20001 ports on the windows firewall.

Everything works and the video is great, however the GUI is very sluggish and remote control is so sluggish that it is almost unusable.

I have dropped the WIndows firewall all together and monitored Processor utilization (38% with client running on the server and media extender) and network utilization (7% max).

Since the video looks great and no shuttering, it seems it may be a problem with the Sage GUI.

Any thoughts or help regarding this problem are appreciated.
